Jazz Club Update

It is just four weeks since the Festival and the rest of the Jazz Club season came to an abrupt halt. Since then the jazz world has lost Bucky Pizzarelli, Ellis Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, Mike Longo, Wallace Rooney and others. Locally the Jazz Club lost a friend in Tim Calandra, blues vocalist and community outreach coordinator at Burns Court Cinema. Here's hoping that the worst is behind us.
There is positive news to share! First I want to post our expanded list of Jazz Club Heroes. These club members and friends have made recent donations to help the Jazz Club climb out of its financial hole. Because of theme we have been able to start refunding festival tickets where necessary; and, we have started to make plans for the coming season.

Scholarship Fund Raises $22,300

While, this is a little short of our $25,000 goal, it is still the most money raised in recent years. Not bad considering the abbreviated season. The really good news is that Scholarship Committee co-chairs Vern and Bob Weitz have reported that we received 17 scholarship applications by the April 1st due date. We want to thank all the school staff that worked to support their students even with the schools closed.
Not Sure What To Call It!
2020 Jazz Fest II
SRQ Jazz Festival Redux
40 + Years of J A Z Z
Okay, we don't know what to call the 2021 Sarasota Jazz Festival, but we do know two things: It will be March 7-13, and

The Manhattan Transfer
will be the Saturday Night Headline Act!

That's right, we are gonna do this! More festival information will following in the weeks and months to come. Ticket sales start in November!

What About The Summer!
It's Too Early To Tell!
We would like to run some summer programming and we are looking at August for possible evening or afternoon events. Maybe indoors, maybe outside! It all depends. As much as we want to do this, we know its safety first. So practice your social distancing and listen to the scientists & public health officials.

Give $100, The Jazz Club Gets $200

The annual one day Giving Challenge presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County is scheduled for the end of April.

We hope to raise $25,000. And we have help! The Patterson Foundation will provide a 1:1 match for all unique donations, up to $100 per donor, per organization. So, if we raise $12,500, the Patterson foundation will double it!
