Cultivating Relationships

and Understanding

Across Borders

PRESENTE! A delegation from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary joined us in the Tuesday evening "Healing Our Borders" Prayer Vigil in January.

See other photos from their visit.

Dear friends,

"We are called not only to proclaim God's love, but to live it and to create a community of love," John shared in our prayer and reflection gathering at Café Justo y Mas last week.

We were from 4 countries, 17 different states, from multiple faith traditions: Mennonite and Methodist, Catholics and Church of God, and 3 different Presbyterian denominations, young and old, rich and poorall united by our love of Jesus and our concern for the most vulnerable in our communities.

In a time where scapegoating of immigrants and fear of the stranger is being spread by the most powerful political forces, may God grant us courage to live God's love and continue to strengthen communities of welcome.

Out of the Ashes, We Rise With God:

Join FPC's Capital Campaign

SINCE THE ARSON FIRE OF MAY 22, 2023, the First Presbyterian Church of Douglas has continued its ministry of worship and service to the community. They have discerned that God is calling them not to rebuild what was, but rather to build for what God is calling them toward.

Pastor Peggy Christiansen provided a powerful witness during the sentencing hearing of the man who burnt the churches: "Your Honor, we would like Mr. Ridenour to know that his actions―as devastating as they have been to us―have not stopped our ministry.

"We will have a building again, where we will continue to welcome anyone with a loving heart to share in our ministry. We will continue to provide safe harbor to those who need it most. We will continue to live our commitment to a Lord who reached out to everyone, no matter their gender, status, sexual identity, state of mind, wealth or poverty, health or

illness.

"We pray for him. We hope that. . . he might one day see and accept the true love of God, which can transform even the most damaged and broken of us, and we pray that one day he might be set free of the hatred that drives him.

"In the meantime, our ministry of Love will continue. We are not defeated."

Major Changes to PCUSA World Mission

and Possible Impacts on Frontera de Cristo

"PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (U.S.A.) LEADERSHIP recently shared plans with World Mission staff to reduce the number of mission co-workers serving abroad by at least 50%" reported the Presbyterian Outlook on January 23, 2025. We are grateful for the 40+ year partnership of PCUSA World Mission has been a partner of FDC and pray that our partnership can continue.

Miriam Maldonado and Mark Adams are Mission Co-workers who are sent by PCUSA. We have not received any information from PCUSA leadership as to whether they will be among the 50% of the Mission Co-workers let go or, if retained, whether they will continue to be assigned to serve with Frontera de Cristo.

Join us in gratitude for our partnership with World Mission over the years and in prayer for PCUSA leadership as they discern the direction of PCUSA national church partnerships and for us as a ministry, as we seek to adapt to whatever changes may come.

God Walks with His People

A Reflection on the Posada

by Lorena Ocampo Campos, Pastor for Families and Children

THE PURPOSE OF THE POSADA is to cherish, remember, and encourage Christians to keep spreading the message of salvation everywhere we go. Christmas is seen as an epiphany and as a time of revelation, joy, encounter, celebration, and reflection.

Over history, we have seen how God walked with His people and used different symbols to identify His presence—a column of fire that led Moses and the children of Israel; a still, small voice that came to Elijah; “a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night” (Exodus 13:21)—just to name a few.
