Dear friends,
On July 4th, we gathered for a cookout 25 yards south of the US/Mexico border in the front yard of James Martin, Tucson Borderlands YAV coordinator, to say good-bye to this year's Young Adult Volunteers. While the border wall and US restrictive policies prevent more than half of the participants from going to the US, it could not prevent any of us from seeing the the city of Douglas, Arizona's, 4th of July fireworks show.
While we were commemorating the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, we celebrated the freedom that God has given us to be transformed into a community of faith that transcends borders.
Thank you for your encouragement, support, and prayers that help us cultivate relationships and understanding across borders and to respond in faith to the realities of migration and the drug culture.

The Migrant Trail: We Walk Walk For Life
Reflections from Professor Ginger Williams
Ginger participated in the 23rd annual Migrant Trail Walk from May 25-31 walking 75 miles "to bear witness to teh tragedy and inhumanity in our midst and committing to working together for the human dignity of all peoples.
| | | | I WANTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS JOURNEY to deepen my commitment to working on immigration issues/policies in the United States which most of us realize are deeply problematic. I wanted to learn more about the desert and the terrain that many undocumented are forced to negotiate, and I wanted to deal with some of my own grief that had compounded over several decades. | | |
While the Migrant Trail is not for everyone, it is a moving experience for those of us concerned about our brothers and sisters who feel compelled to leave their homes because of violence, war, genocide and climate change. It's a good way to deepen our commitment and understanding of how US policies perpetuate the conditions that compel people to migrate.
