A Message from Debbie Wagner, CEO
Greetings and Happy Fall Everyone.

It's that super busy time of year again. We just had our last summer holiday weekend and are focusing on the start of a new school year. Of course our programs and youth impact would not be possible without you. We want to make sure that you don’t miss any of the amazing things you helped make happen so please read on.

The HeART Works store and sale is coming to La Encantada on October 6-7 with proceeds to benefit the HeART Works program focused on building self-confidence through artistic expression and our year round Clubhouse art classes. Thank you to volunteer extraordinaire Cindy Robertson for bringing this special program to our BGCT kids with a grant from the Catalina Rotary Club and Presido Group Wealth Management. She has been working all year with our youth, art staff, local artists, Board members and community supporters such as Diana Madaras, Mary Garrett, Jeannie Neubauer, Karen Downey, Lawrence Lee, Vincetta Westerbeke and many others on this new project for our organization. Thank you all!

Dante Laurette, our Board Member, Rocket Scientist and 2017 Hall of Fame member, will be featured on national and local Tucson Coke bottles, trucks and in Dollar Stores during the months of September and October. Dante continues to organize a science club at Steve Daru and is working with us on a major grant from the National Science Foundation in partnership with the U of A. We are honored to have Dante on our Board and feel lucky to have him here in Tucson mentoring our youth and supporting our STEM programs.

Special thanks to Robert Welsh from Papa John’s for designating BGCT to benefit from a special one day event on August 29th. BGCT received 29% of all proceeds from food ordered that day. Thanks to all of you that supported this one day event for our kids. BGCT will also continue to be Papa John’s of Tucson’s charity of choice for a year round fundraiser when you order the BGCT special. Thank you to Robert and Papa John’s for your support.

And, as always, thank you for helping to improve the lives of children and families!
Debbie Wagner, CEO

Pascua Yaqui Club Members and Staff Attend Entrepreneurship Program Through Scholarship for Eller College of Management at University of Arizona
Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse Club Director Adam Ortiz was able to secure scholarships and acceptance in a special entrepreneurship program for several teen Club members and staff through the Business Entrepreneurship Program at University of Arizona with scholarships provided through the Eller Economic Development Program at the University of Arizona Eller College of Management.

The teens selected are academically excelling teens from the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse and staff who will directly participate in the entrepreneurship programming at the Clubhouse.
Upon completion, this program will enhance the resumes of all in attendance, but more importantly provide knowledge that can be applied to enrich the organization and programming at the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse.
Planned Giving
Are Your Plans Up-to-Date?
One of the most effective ways to care for your family is with a current estate plan. Are your plans up-to-date? Here are some questions to consider.

  • Have there been significant life changes with your family (marriages, divorces, births, deaths, etc.) since you last updated your will or trust?
  • Are you certain that your assets are properly titled? Titling issues may cause your assets to be unintentionally distributed to someone else.
  • Will your plan cause unity or division among your heirs? What legacy will you leave for your family? For your community?

Always be sure to consult your estate planner or tax advisor when making important financial decisions. If you’d like to learn more about how you can support a charitable organization like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson in your will, please contact us at (520) 573-3533.

For more information on how you can leave a lasting legacy, contact Elizabeth Bollinger, VP of Fund Development and Planned Giving at 520.308.3332 or via email ebollinger@bgctucson.org .
Back-to-School at the Clubs
Back-to-School think After-School…

Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is dedicated to ensuring that all of Tucson’s youth have access to proven, quality, after-school programming, a caring staff, and a safe Clubhouse that will enhance their lives and shape their futures. Clubhouses offer over 40 programs throughout the year to its members in five core areas promoting Education & Career, Character & Leadership, the Arts, and Health & Life Skills with the goal that every young person who is an active member will graduate high school and have a plan for their future.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson currently serves over 4,500 active Club members at its six Clubhouses and reaches over 9,000 youth throughout the community. Last year 96% of our teen-aged Club members were on track to graduate from high school and 85% of them expected to complete some form of post-secondary education.

Currently, the only cost to our Club members is an annual school-year membership fee of $20. That’s 36 weeks of after-school programming with dinner included at all six Clubhouses and no child is ever turned away for inability to pay. The true cost to the organization is more than $700 per child. Needless to say, we can’t do it without your support!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is a qualifying charity for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. Your contribution may qualify for a dollar-for-dollar tax credit of up to $800 per family.

No investment is too great to ensure our children have great futures. Thank you!
