A Message from Debbie Wagner, CEO
Happy Spring everyone!

We have so much to celebrate at the end of our first quarter of 2019 including the success of our largest fundraiser of the year, The Event. Thanks so much to the Tucson community for coming out to support our BGCT kids and to La Encantada, Hensley Beverage and the 50 Tucson restaurants who donated their food, talent, staff and time to feed the crowd of more than 1,600 who joined us on March 24 th . The Event would not be possible without the our amazing Board, 2019 Event Chairs Ken Kwilosz, Laura McGlinn and Tamra Briley, the hard working Event and Sponsorship Committees, volunteers, BGCT staff and of course our generous sponsors and partners. (Please read on to see our list).
Our focus now is on our annual Steak & Burger Dinner to be held at Casino Del Sol Resort on Friday, June 7 th . We are looking forward to celebrating and recognizing our 2019 Youth of the Year for their hard work and accomplishments.

We are also excited to be honoring our 2019 Click for Kids Awardees the Nelson-Wetterschneider family. This prestigious award recognizes one person, couple, or organization that has made a profound and sustained impact on our Clubs kids over a significant time period. The award is also special because the winners are selected by the Board of Directors.

Laurie and Larry Wetterschneider and Linda and Stuart Nelson (Laurie's parents) have tirelessly promoted and served Tucson’s youth through volunteerism, advocacy, fundraising, and philanthropy. They have brought unique and extraordinary programming into the Clubs and enabled youth to gain experiences they would not otherwise have received. Laurie and Larry Wetterschneider have supported the clubs since 1990. Laurie’s exemplary Board service has yielded remarkable financial results, and her influence within the community has brought other community leaders into the organization. Linda and Stuart Nelson have been champions for the kids, especially in arts education. In addition to their significant funding for the arts program at the Frank & Edith Morton Clubhouse for many years, they also have funded Thanksgiving Dinners, the Summer Camp Program, and the Canales Project/Finding Your Voice Program.
The Wetterschneider-Nelson family has made an outstandingly positive and consequential impact on Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson and the youth they serve. They are considered great friends of the kids and we are so fortunate to have them as donors and ambassadors for our organization.
Also being honored at the Steak & Burger Dinner will be the Pascua Yaqui Tribe who has been chosen as the recipients of the 2019 Youth Impact Award for Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson. We are particularly excited to celebrate with them during the 20 th anniversary of our Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse partnership this year. We are grateful for the ways that their vision and generosity are making a difference in our Club Members’ lives. The Youth Impact Award was created in 2016, selected by BGCT Staff, to annually recognize one individual, couple, or organization that has made a consequential impact on Club kids through innovative programmatic enhancement. The Pascua Yaqui Tribe was selected for its exemplary and longstanding support of the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse, which provides our youth with the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and programs including cultural awareness, education, career development, arts, physical education, and healthy lifestyles. Their investment is literally changing lives.

The true meaning of life is to plant trees, and create shade where you do not necessarily expect to sit.” – Kamari aka Lyrikal

Thanks to all of you for supporting BGCT to create Great Futures for the Tucson kids who need us most.

Destiny Delgado, 2019 Mark Irvin City of Tucson Youth of the Year Competes for State Title

Congratulations to our very own Destiny Delgado! She made us all very proud as she represented Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson at the Arizona State Youth of the Year competition in Phoenix.

Destiny did a super job representing Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson and was selected as one of three finalists to present during the breakfast. We could not be more proud of her.

A special thanks and recognition to Nikieia Johnson, Clubhouse Director and April English, Teen Program Manager, who chaperoned, mentored and coached Destiny on behalf of the Holmes Tuttle Clubhouse.
HeART Works Welcomed Artist and Art Teacher Maria Kat
In early March, HeART Works welcomed artist and art teacher Maria Katz to lead a HeARTworks project for our youth. There were 23 youth from three clubhouses, as well as volunteers including Board Members Laura McGlinn and Ilene Sipe.

Maria Katz is an artist beyond the canvas. Her "hand made home" is a place to see the endless extent of her artistic talent: her variety of painting styles, hand painted wine glasses, photography, ceramics, mosaics, and even some of the clothes in her closet, all hand made by the artist. You can learn more about Maria through her website .

HeARTworks-Tucson is a non profit organization that works with youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson to produce one of a kind art pieces to sell. All proceeds help to fund the Fine Arts program at Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson.
