Blessing of Thanksgiving Baskets for Foothill Family Shelter, Nov 10

The Daughters of the King are coordinating St. Mark’s donations to Foothill Family Shelter's Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway for needy families throughout our region. The shelter is planning to distribute 1,000 baskets this year!

One Thanksgiving basket consists of the following items:

  • $25 grocery gift card
  • 1 box of stuffing
  • 1 can of cranberry sauce
  • 1 box of instant potatoes
  • 1 can of candied yams
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • 2 cans of corn
  • 1 can of turkey gravy
  • 1 oven roasting pan
  • 1 oven roasting bag
  • 1 cake, cookie, or brownie mix

Place all the items in a box, basket, or bag and include the gift card activation slip. Due at St. Mark's by Sunday November 10.

You can also donate money to the drive by writing a check made out to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and writing FFS Thanksgiving in the memo line. $50 will buy a complete basket, but all donations will help.

If you prefer to mail your check directly to the Foothill Family Shelter office or take your completed basket to the office yourself, the instructions for doing so are on the flier. Thank you for your help!

Celtic Pilgrimage, 2025

Join former Dean Canon Kelli Grace Kurtz and Dominic Barrington for a Celtic Pilgrimage in June 2025. For more information: tours.lightlinena.com

St. Mark's Book Club, Nov 16

Next meeting will be held at Maggie Vizio's on November 16th.

Next book is "Always a Song: Singers, Songwriters, Sinners & Saints" by Ellen Harper with Sam Barry.

Harper, whose parents founded the legendary Folk Music Center in Claremont, takes readers on a journey through a transformational time in music history and American culture from love-ins and civil rights protests onward.

One reviewer calls it a "beautifully written memoir that includes stories of Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez and others," while Jackson Browne declares it "a quiet, searching, account of a life lived for truth, love and music."

Lectio Divina: In Person Bible Study, Tuesday Morning

Join us for an in-person Lectio Divina Bible study, for Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30AM. Lectio is a contemplative method of reading the Bible. We will listen to an upcoming Sunday gospel lesson three times from different versions of the Bible and respond to a reflection question after each reading. Our time includes introductions, check-in, a break, and open discussion. Join us in room 16 on Tuesdays thru Oct 29. All welcome.

Youth Group News

If you can help with Trunk or Treat, you should try to arrive as close to 3:00 PM as possible and plan to stay until 8:00 PM. The youth group will help by handing out hot dogs, chips, and water to people coming to Trunk or Treat, and will also be available to take extra candy to decorated cars as needed, run errands between work groups, and help clean up afterwards. If your school requires community service hours, this counts!

Children's Chapel

Children from the ages 3-10 are welcome to attend the children’s chapel at the fount of the church on the south side. We begin at 9:50 AM with sign-in, and lessons begin at 10 AM. Your child will join you for communion.

Register Now for Christian Climate Training

The Episcopal Church is partnering with Blessed Tomorrow and eight other denominations to offer a live, virtual Christian Climate Training on Nov. 16 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

The majority of Americans are concerned about climate change. But, they think only half of those around them feel the same way. As a person of faith, you can help others see they're not alone in their concern and invite them to take action.

The Christian Climate Training equips you with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and resources to speak and take action on climate change from a faith perspective in your home, neighborhood, church, community, with policymakers, and beyond. After the training, you’re invited to become part of the Blessed Tomorrow Climate Ambassador Community, which provides ongoing support, resources, events, and a vast community of climate ambassadors from across the U.S.

Giving Update through September 30, 2024

Thank you very much for your donations to St. Mark's -- and for supporting the recent program to purchase mugs and help the planet. We ask for your prayerful consideration of St. Mark's this fall. Our summer electricity and water bills spike in the summer, just when there is usually a summer giving lull. We also have a large structural deficit that we are striving to close. Operating fund contributions were about $200,000 through September 30 and we will need a robust fall to meet our budget. We have also received donations of about $40,000 for the building fund and $5,200 for Haiti outreach along with countless donations for outreach and small projects. Every donation is appreciated! We will be emailing quarterly donation statements and you can check your giving at any time through Breeze. Please contact Rose, our office administrator, at parishadmin@stmarks-upland.org if you wish to set up access through Breeze, wish to update your pledge, or have questions.

Donating from IRA Accounts

Required minimum distributions (RMD) are the least amounts of money you must withdraw from your traditional IRA account each year, once you reach a certain age. If you make a qualified charitable contribution directly to St. Mark's for some or all of the RMD, that amount will not be taxed. Your financial advisor or IRA customer service can provide additional details on how to make this type of donation to St. Mark's.

Thank you for your generous gift.

No matter how, how much, or how often you give,

you make a difference. Your contribution is appreciated.
