SFNE is pleased to report that
Massachusetts Bill S2546 has received an extension from the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. The legislation will require cities and towns to give preference to U.S. manufacturers when buying steel, iron, and other materials for new buildings and renovations.
The extension will give SFNE the time necessary to narrow the bill's scope to ensure compliance with the new law that will require structural steel to be manufactured and fabricated in the United States.
We could not have succeeded in this effort without the help of so many SFNE members who have taken the time to write letters, send emails, and phone legislators to ask for support. We will continue to keep you up-to-date on developments as the bill continues through the legislative process.
SFNE thanks everyone who has supported the campaign, but much more work lies ahead and the lobbying effort needed to cross the finish line remains costly. The Buy American Campaign is not inexpensive and, as with any legislative effort, there is no guarantee we will succeed.
We would appreciate it if you could lend your financial support to the effort. The total lobbying cost for 2022 could exceed $80,000. Member contributions will fund this, and we hope you will contribute. Every donation helps.
Please let me know if I can provide additional information or if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Catherine A. Flaherty, CAE
