A NOTE FROM DAVID'S DESK

Together, we are able to learn and grow.

Dear Friend of The League,

As summer has come to a close and we move into much more temperate weather, Camp Greentop has ended its summer sessions. Despite this, the memories made will never be forgotten, and the magic of camp will continue to live on. Thank you all for making Season 89 so special! The adventures have moved on from the Greentop to the Midwest, where 11 campers and 4 staff explored Chicago's attractions and restaurants on a 5-day travel trip.

In cooperation with Case Management and Meaningful Day, on 8/26, The Leauge held an Advocacy Day! This was achieved through a movie and panel that discussed the similarities between the main character's struggles and some of the struggles participants have experienced because of their disabilities and the preconceived connotations that come with them. This, along with helpful advice on managing difficult situations, helped prepare them to continue advocating for their own needs and well-being.

On 8/28, The Leauge didn’t just have one prom celebration – but two! Early in the day, Adult Medical Day had its retro tie-dye theme with games, barbecue, and some early 2000s hits for everyone to hit the dance floor! Later that evening, Youth Autism Services had their annual "A Night to Remember" event where participants dressed up, enjoyed mocktails and soul food, and received their school supplies from the Back to School Drive so they could feel prepared for a new year of learning! Thank you to the enthusiastic staff, volunteers, and generous donors for making our participants feel valued and worthy of fun experiences!

Adventurous travelers took on the Windy City touring cool destinations and enjoying local cuisine.

Advocacy Day gave several people the chance to discuss important topics of agency, accessibility, and dignity.
