Welcome to Summer at Ascension Episcopal Parish!

I for one am excited to head into the lazy, hazy days of Ordinary Time. I have my lounge

chair out on the lawn, a book in hand, and a glass of cold lemonade at the ready.

If you are traveling this summer, please drop me a line and we will keep you in our

prayers.

If you are staying in town, we have printed a Summer Service Schedule for you so that

you do not miss a single exciting Sunday with the Ascension Family. Things are a little

new and different this summer, so take a peek here, or on the Ascension Parish website

for the most up-to-date communications. We hope that you will love the events we have

planned.

Dear Parish family,

Our 2024/25 choir season has come to an end, and what a season it was! We had more choral services this season than in any of my previous years at Ascension, and I’m grateful to our singers for their dedication and excellent work at All Saints’ Evensong, Advent Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Epiphany, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and Ascension Evensong! 

I’m especially grateful that our choir was able to gather one more time on Saturday, May 31st to sing at the memorial service for our beloved choir member Susan O’Hollaren. To honor her entrance into the heavenly choir, we sang music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and her favorite “Dresden Amen” - made famous by Felix Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony, as well as Wagner’s Parsifal and many other classical works.

Our choir now has some time off until the fall, but there’s still a chance this summer to hear special music at Ascension! We have a Salon Series Concert coming up on July 6 at 4PM, featuring local pianist Claire Forstman. Claire will offer a piano recital in our Common Room with music by Debussy, Schumann, and more.

I would like to meet with all of you, individually or in small groups. Please know that these chats are important to me, and to the future of this church. We need to know where we are starting from so that we can go forward together.

I am at Ascension Parish on Tuesdays from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. I am also at the church Wednesdays through Fridays, when my schedule varies, so it is best to meet me by appointment. If you would like to schedule a specific time to meet with me, please give me a call at 971-200-0970. Remember, I do make house calls as well. I am here to be of service to you.
