GSN Launches New Website!

We're proud to announce the launch of our new and improved website! To align with our updated mission, vision, and branding, we have given the site a revamped look with updated information about our work. We're thrilled to highlight our services, key partners, and major areas of impact. The site is organized around the theme of Elevating the Education Experience for students, teachers, families, and communities. Many thanks to the GSN Communications team, as well as Nathan Jenks, Founder & Principal and Zweck Strategies and communications graduate student, Victoria Sarkisian, for their hard work on this project! Peer Counseling at Westgate Community School

GSN has partnered with Westgate Community School (WCS) on the Bullying Prevention and Education Grant since the 2016-17 school year with a mission to develop a more positive climate throughout their school community. WCS's assistant principal, Amanda Novak, has successfully led these efforts and continues to develop innovative strategies to strengthen Social Emotional support structures school-wide. One approach, WCS's peer counseling program, has recently been highlighted  on NPR's Here & Now and in EdSurge . Shout out to  Novak and WCS's peer counselors for all the work they have done to address students' mental health needs!
Celebrating Student Motivation on State Testing at La Junta Intermediate School!

La Junta Intermediate School has taken motivating their students to the next level.  Staff from the school, including members of GSN's Turnaround Leadership Program, have gone above and beyond in showing support for their students. They have created a video to the Queen song "We Will Rock You" with adapted lyrics to encourage their students to do well on the assessment. Click here to view the video. We promise it will put a smile on your face!

Is your district working to help students succeed who are still learning English?

Although some students who are learning English have been stigmatized as below grade level, English Language Learners (or ELLs) are a diverse group of
students with various gifts, interests, and abilities.  These students often become frustrated learning the curriculum in English, even though it's likely they understand the topics being covered. It's crucial that stakeholders such as parents and the community are also involved in their success, and schools invest to ensure these students maintain equity with their peers. For an inspirational story about English language learners graduating at the top of their class, and other artifacts, please see the links below.
