YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED . . .

You may have noticed that the church has been a little messy lately. The good news is that out of that mess will come some beautiful updates (such as the lovely new floors) and TLC that our building needed. The bad news is that we may have to endure it for just a little while longer. Please be patient as the work continues and Good Sam gets the renovations it has needed and that you have so generously made possible through the Capital Campaign.

EUCHARISTIC VISITOR TRAINING

If you have committed to being a Eucharistic Visitor for 2026, please plan to attend the training on Sunday, January 18th, following the 10:30 service. This training is important for new volunteers and veterans because of some upcoming changes we would like to implement. Chicken salad and crackers will be served. If you have questions about this training, please contact Elizabeth Colonna.

ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS

9:30 - Henslee Hall

The Adult Confirmation - or Inquirer's Class - began Sunday, January 11 during the Sunday School hour at 9:30 am. The sacrament of Confirmation is the adult confirmation, or acceptance, of our baptismal vows that were made on our behalf if we were baptized as an infant or a child. It is also the class or method by which adults, baptized or confirmed in another denomination or tradition, join the Episcopal Church. We also highly recommend those life-long Episcopalians who were confirmed when they were 12 or 13 to attend and learn all the stuff they didn't learn the first time! This class is still open for people to join! For more information, please contact Father Cal.

CHILI COOK-OFF

The Annual Good Sam Chili Cook-Off will take place on Sunday, February 1. Judging, appetizers, and fellowship will begin at 5:30, and then at 6:00, we eat! (Please note that the chili needs to be hot and at Henslee Hall by 5:15.)

We need folks to make chili for judging, as well as folks to judge the chili! Prizes will be awarded in a few different categories.

We also need appetizers, cornbread, and dessert. See the signup sheet below and choose something you'd like to bring.

NOTE: There is ALSO a signup sheet in Henslee Hall if you'd prefer to signup that way. You only need to signup in one place...either here OR Henslee Hall - not both. We'll combine the lists as often as we can.

HELP NEEDED

Do you have some extra time throughout the week? We have a number of older adults needing extra support with tasks such as house/yard cleaning and/ or grocery shopping. The Care Committee was asked if there were any people who might be interested in helping out a little for some of these parishioners. If you are interested, call Greg Phelps, the committee chair, at 865-919-5504, or notify the church office.

GRACE MOMENT AT GOOD SAM

Cash in the Plate

Episcopal Relief & Development is in close contact with our partners, including local dioceses and agencies in Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti, as Hurricane Melissa caused widespread devastation throughout the Caribbean region. The storm is the strongest hurricane in Jamaica’s history and one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record. Hurricane Melissa left approximately 77% of the island without power and displaced more than 6,000 people. 102 deaths are attributed to Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Haiti.

You can make an online gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. Please put "ERD - Hurricane Melissa" in the memo line.
