Daughters of the King Fall Discernment
Sundays, August 25, September 8 & 15, October 6 & 27, November 17 | 12:00p, Windsor, vestry room
The Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) is for women of the church who seek a life of prayer, service, and evangelism for personal growth and for the spiritual upbuilding of the church. To become a member of the Order, a period of prayerful discernment in community is undertaken. DOK invites all women of Good Shepherd to prayerfully consider if this is of interest and to begin the process of discernment with us. No commitment is required, and all women are welcome to embark on discernment. For more information or to let us know you plan to begin discernment, please contact the Rev. Paige Alvarez Hanks.
EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY (EfM) PROGRAM:
New Fall Class Forming
Thursdays beginning September 5 | 6:30p–9:00p
Windsor, vestry room
Interested in exploring the history and fundamentals of Christianity and nurturing your faith? If so, consider joining Good Shepherd’s Education for Ministry group. EfM is perhaps the best course of study in Christian basics. The development of adult discipleship and an informed and reflective laity lies at the heart of EfM’s thought-provoking curriculum which models the core study areas of a seminary education: The Hebrew Bible; The New Testament; the history of Christianity, and theology and ethics. Good Shepherd’s mentored group weaves those studies into theological conversations informed by participants’ experience of the world. Good Shepherd’s EfM group meets weekly on Thursday evenings at the Windsor campus. The 2024-2025 class is forming now with a start date of September 5. Commitment is one year at a time. For more information, please contact mentors Bill Davies or Susan Harris.
SUMMER SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY
Sundays through August 18 | 9:15a–10:00a
Windsor, Media room
The Summer Sunday Bible Study will connect the Old and New Testaments, meeting on Sunday mornings beginning this Sunday. Three words in the Book of Genesis, "And God said..." set the entire Judeo-Christian story in motion. The Old Testament is the "operating system" for the New Testament. Without the calling of Israel, the story of Jesus has no context. Without the Law and the Prophets, the New Testament has no foundation in which to build the Church. We will read a variety of biblical texts, from Abraham and Moses and the Prophets to the Gospels and St. Paul, and discover how often the Scriptures reveal "the good news of the gospel." With questions, please contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.
MEN'S BIBLE STUDY
Mondays through August 26 | 6:30p–8:00p
Windsor, Vestry Room
In the New Testament, we have only one account of the early church, The Acts of the Apostles. This summer, the Men's Bible Study will study this very relevant story, beginning with the Day of Pentecost and moving into the foundations of Christian world missions. Initially, we will concentrate on the ministry in Jerusalem (chapters 1–5) and the missionary movements beyond Jerusalem (chapters 6–12). We invite all the men in the parish to join us! For more information, please contact Frank Pool.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED
Our Sunday morning ministries to the children and youth at Good Shepherd are only possible because of the dedication and care of faithful volunteers. Our teaching teams work together to lead Godly Play (3 years-2nd grade) and Edge Bible Study (3rd-5th grades) on a regular rotation serving once every 6 weeks. We are looking to add faithful and caring adults of all ages to our fantastic team of teachers for Fall of 2024. If you might be called to serve in this way, let us know by filling out this form!
