FROM PASTOR DANIEL

In the past weeks, I have been sharing some details about the recently adopted WPC Mission Statement: We are called to be and to make disciples who love God and who love our neighborsLast week I wrote about our calling to love God, and this week, I want to share about the last part, and who love our neighbors.

We see the call to love our neighbors explained in two ways.  We love our neighbors:

  • through participation in a community of divine fellowship, celebrating each other's joys and bearing one another's burdens.
  • through discipleship that relies on the grace of God in Jesus Christ and demonstrates compassion for all people.

You can see the first part is way of describing the community of believers who are bound together in Christ.  In the church, we are neighbors to each other, and our calling is to show love and support in the good times and in the difficult times.

The second part brings others into focus.  Following Jesus who told the parable of the Good Samaritan to illustrate the universality of our neighbors, we rely on God’s grace to show compassion to ALL people.  Showing compassion means to suffer with another, taking on their burdens.  It may be sharing kindness, a cup of cold water, or speaking on behalf of the ones who have no power or no voice of their own.  And, there are no people we can skip over in those efforts.

This Mission Statement will serve to guide us in mission and ministry at Westminster.  Next week, I’ll share how we can keep it in front of us in all we do!

With much love,

Pastor Daniel

Youth Ministry is fun, and it is so important in the faith formation of young people. Sunday, some of the youth gathered for a 70’s and 80’s themed “Oscar Night.” Every time you give, it supports the mission and ministry to young people. Thank you!
