Good Sense for
 Joshua's House
Joshua’s House Hospice is pleased to have a wonderful partner in Good Sense Dogs, a local nonprofit co-founded by Kristi Cooney (pictured left), professional dog trainer and member of our Community Advisory Committee. Good Sense aids current pet owners, educates potential pet owners, and provides assisting animals to those in need.

They have also worked with the homeless. “Our work with the homeless has shown us what pets mean to their owners. For most of this population, their pet serves as their entire family as well as best friend. There would be no discussion about entering care for them-selves if they didn’t have an option for their furry best friend. They would rather die on the streets than leave their pet abandoned.” Good Sense wants to provide Joshua’s House Hospice residents with the peace of mind in knowing that their beloved pets will be taken care of and loved.
The organization works with foster homes and they are in need of many homes to be available on opening day of Joshua’s House Hospice. We predict that we’ll be at capacity (20 beds filled) on our first day. Statistics show that one in four homeless people in the US are pet owners, and Good Sense believes that the numbers are even higher in Sacramento. This will likely mean a need for five or more homes for dogs upon opening and, of course, many more throughout the year. Once in foster homes, Good Sense will meet with the families, determine any pet behavioral issues, and then ready the animals for new adoptive homes. They also hope to make visits of the animals and their former owners at Joshua’s House Hospice, when appropriate.
Good Sense is looking for volunteers to help with this effort. They will be needed for the following: fostering of animals, help with trans-portation, and help in locating animals within the community once the owners enter Joshua’s House Hospice. They also seek donations, both monetary, and of equipment and food. They will accept new and gently used dog beds, crates, bowls, leashes, and collars. And they will supply dog food to the foster homes plus offer veterinary care to all the animals received. Monetary donations can be made at and volunteer information is available there. They can also be reached at (916) 600-1809 or
We love sharing about the success of our December Sip, Savor, and Sway Gala which will become an annual event. It was not only a fundraiser but such a wonderful community event, and way for us to thank our supporters!

Did you know that the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op at 2820 R Street has designated Joshua's House Hospice to receive proceeds from their "Round Up Register" effort for the month of January?
We are honored to be chosen and thank them for their support!
We’ve raised $1.5 million to date, thanks to our strong community donors, but we still need to raise $800,000 to meet our construction budget goal. Become a member of our new Circle of Sustainers, for those who donate $500 or more to Joshua’s House Hospice by April 1, 2020. Please help us reach our goal and donate today!
