Good Shepherd Carbon Neutral Initiative

Mission Green Project Update

GOOD SHEPHERD CARBON NEUTRAL INITIATIVE COMPLETE!

The heat pumps, courtyard, pergola, and all solar components are now complete!

The solar pergola was connected to the grid on Monday. We are now fully producing solar electricity with our 129 solar panels! We are moving toward our Carbon Neutral and Net Zero Energy goal!! Huzzah!!

The LED strip lighting and the new speaker system have been installed and are working.

The back lawn will be leveled and tilled next week. We will seed enough area for “spillover” at the Community Picnic. The remainder of the yard will be hydro-seeded when it cools down in September. This work will include a 4,000 sq. ft. pollinator prairie planted with wildflowers (approved by the Council at the August 15th meeting).

We had an excellent turnout for the Winneshiek Energy District monthly luncheon today. There were nearly 40 people in attendance, with many great questions and excitement about our efforts.

The project has been a long journey for everyone, but we hope you agree it was worth the effort. In the coming years, we will continue to monitor the production of solar energy and the efficiency of heat pumps. We’ll continue to work to “dial in” the comfort levels in the various areas. It will be a work in progress as we transition seasons.

Mission Green would like to take this opportunity to thank the congregation for the trust you placed in us for this effort. We continue to appreciate your support.
