Lenten Fellowship Suppers

A key component of our church's 150th Anniversary celebration is Building Community. To honor that initiative, we are hosting Lenten Fellowship Suppers each Friday in the homes of fellow parishioners. These suppers will help us get to know one another better and grow and build a stronger community. Congregation in Conversation during Lent

As part of our Lenten journey this year, we are inviting the whole congregation to join in reading Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans. In this book the author relates the story of her own concerns and frustrations with the church, as well as those of her Millennial generation. By exploring her own relationship and understanding of the sacraments of the church, Rachel Held Evans helps us explore our faith and our mission as the church. In-person discussions of the book will be led by Jon Stoddard at 9 AM in the Ennis Suite throughout Lent, beginning February 18th and ending March 24th. Also, the Books and Bagels group will discuss the book during Lent.

An online forum will be available for questions and comments from those unable to attend in-person sessions.

Copies of the book are available through the Wake County libraries, bookstores, Amazon, and a limited number of copies through The Church of the Good Shepherd Library.

Contact Jean Knepley.

Searching for Sunday

by Rachel Held Evans

If you need a book to pastor you, befriend you, pick you up and dust you off, and maybe even give you a spiritual kiss on the cheek and a devotional kick in the pants, you’ve found it here.

A forceful invitation to reconsider that Faith has been misunderstood as a package of certitudes rather than a relationship of fidelity.

Episcopal Coalition: Habitat for Humanity

This year's build to support Habitat for Humanity will be starting soon! Anyone can work any dates they like, but February 24th and April 6th are the primary dates Good Shepherd is being asked to support:

Celebrating 150 Years

The Church of the Good Shepherd

 150th Anniversary

Honoring Tradition, Growing in Faith, Building Community

Stay tuned for opportunities to celebrate!

Love Letters to Good Shepherd

As part of our 150th Anniversary celebration, we are collecting memories, fun moments, thoughts and calling it Love Letters to Good Shepherd.

Everyone is encouraged to jot something down:

  • A special moment you recall,
  • What brought you to Good Shepherd,
  • What things you enjoy most – you choose!

It can be anonymous, or you can sign your name. Use words or draw a picture. Express a thought as an individual, do it as a couple or as a family – tell us what you want the world to know about this parish in this moment in time.

There will be a special box in the first-floor bookcase display spot for the next few weeks

to collect these letters. Don’t be shy. We urge you to contribute – even if it’s only a phrase.

Length does not matter. What would be wonderful is to fill up the box! The “letters” will be part of our 150th Homecoming event on April 21st.

Urban Ministries Outreach Project

As part of our 150th Anniversary celebration and in keeping with our parish's long tradition of outreach, we will soon launch a special service project to benefit those in our community served by Urban Ministries of Wake County. Stay tuned for details for how you can be involved and support this exciting project! Contacts: Jean Knepley or Grace Sved.

Can You Help? Warmth for Wake

Time is nearing for Good Shepherd’s annual workday with Warmth for Wake to help cut,

load, and deliver firewood to some needy families. This year, we’ve been asked to help

on Saturday, February 17 from 8:30 AM until noon at Everett Farms, 7044 Wildlife Trail in Raleigh.

We need 1-2 people with chain saws (bring your own) to section logs, several two-

person teams to operate gas-powered log splitters, and 2-3 people with pickup trucks or

trailers to load and deliver the firewood to designated families. All other help is

welcome, and expert assistance and onsite training will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity to team up with your fellow parishioners to get outside,

get a little exercise, and spread some post-Valentine’s Day love to help deserving

families that would otherwise be cold this winter. It is open to anyone 14 years or older

(16 years or older to work with power equipment), so it is also a good source of service

hours for teens that need them.

You can sign up by CLICKING HERE. If you have any questions or need more details,

please contact Dan Harris.

Parish Life

Well Done, Good Shepherd!

Our goal was to create 350 valentine's cards for Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen guests to be distributed on Valentine's Day.

We actually produced 360 cards...with special thanks to EpiscoPALS kids and parents and the amazing Elizabeth Gant, Beth O'Connell, and Carolyn Wilson!

The cards will be blessed during the 10:15 worship service on Sunday and then distributed to Shepherd's Table guests on Wednesday!

How to Make Tax-saving Contributions to Good Shepherd!

Parishioners frequently ask if they can easily pay pledges or make contributions to the church with appreciated shares of stock or from their IRA’s. Now, with the help of our investment firm for the CGS Endowment Fund Trust, we can be of help.

First, if you have appreciated stock shares you would like to use for your pledge commitment or other Good Shepherd cause, you can do so easily and automatically with a few simple

instructions to your financial advisor.

Second, you may be able to avoid taxation on Required Minimum Distributions from an IRA

by giving proper instructions to your financial advisor or broker. For further information on how to do this, feel free to contact Duke Fentress, Trustee (919.215.8256).
