Hey Parents! Join us for breakfast on Sunday
As you may know, The Church of the Good Shepherd is in the process of hiring a new Family Minister. Among
other duties, this person will be responsible for all our ministries with children and families, including
overseeing Sunday School and Godly Play, supervising the nursery, and planning a full calendar of educational, formational, and recreational programs and activities.
If you would like to be part of this ongoing conversation about the future of Family Ministry at Good Shepherd, please join us for coffee and a light breakfast on Sunday, May 18 at 9 AM in the Library. While our children are in their morning class, we will gather to discuss the future of Family Ministry. We are especially interested in your input on class meeting times, new initiatives, and our new Family Minister.

Composting Made Easy – New Composting Opportunity for Good Shepherd!
The ReCollective's Community Compost program is coming soon to CGS! Composting is made simple, with a convenient drop-off right at Church in the back parking lot. Join CGS and Raleigh Mennonite as we divert food waste and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable community. Memberships start at $3.15 per week.
Please sign up now to indicate your interest in participating. Monthly billing will only start when 10 households register, and the program materials are delivered to CGS! Contact The ReCollective directly at megan@therecollective.co with any questions.

ONE Wake Update
HB 781, “Unauthorized Public Camping and Sleeping,” would make it illegal for the unhoused to sleep outdoors or on public property or in front of business. If a property owner wants to, after five days they can sue the city or town for civil damages if the local government does not remove that person. Although the bill allows for a system where a city or town can designate a park area as a “sleeping zone,” they are not required to and if they do not, it would be illegal for the unhoused to sleep outdoors anywhere in the city or town. As of May 7, this bill has passed the House and will move on to the Senate. Let your representatives know you oppose this attack on our unhoused neighbors.

Readers Needed for Pentecost Sunday – June 8
During our 10:15 worship service on Pentecost Sunday, June 8 th , the lectionary reading from Acts, which tells
the story of the first Pentecost, will be read in several languages in addition to English. In past years we’ve had
parishioners read in Spanish, French, German, Latin, Thai, Portuguese, American Sign Language, Japanese,
Welsh and more! If you are able to read in a language other than English and would be willing to read a short
passage this year, please contact David Baggett (919.831.2018). Thank you!

VBS T-shirts!
We are gearing up for VBS this year and we are going to have t-shirts! T-Shirts will be provided for all VBS kids and volunteers. We would also like to offer the option for parishioners to buy a t-shirt for $20 to support the program. Shirts are available in all youth and adult sizes.

CGS Mission Trip to Yancey County
This summer, the Church of the Good Shepherd is sending a work team to the mountains of western North Carolina to help with the Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Our team will be based at the Burnsville Rebuild Center in Yancey County, just north of Asheville. This site is operated by Baptists on Mission, a well-established and well-respected relief organization currently undertaking recovery efforts all across North Carolina.
The Good Shepherd team will leave on Sunday, July 20, work Monday through Saturday, and return again on Sunday, July 27. During our stay, we will be housed in the fellowship hall of Burnsville area church. Baptists on Mission will assign our group to an appropriate work site and provide meals, tools, and other logistical support. With most of the demolition and cleanup now complete, we will likely be rebuilding hurricane-damaged homes.
While this trip was initially organized solely for members of the Episcopal Youth Community, the urgency of the need convinced us to open it to the entire congregation. We currently have twenty spots available, some of which will be reserved for teenagers. You must be in 8 th grade to attend. A special invitation is extended to those with construction or other applicable skills.
Registration will be open on the Good Shepherd website next week. If you can’t attend, but would like to support this effort, please consider making a donation. For more information about the Mission Trip to Yancey County, contact the Rev. Justin Gabbard.

Annual Pig Pickin' on May 10
The Mike Beard Annual Pig Pickin' last weekend brought everyone together for a fun and family-friendly time. Tara Farm was a beautiful setting for the gathering and was enjoyed by all. The kids had a blast with the activities and music, and everyone savored the delicious BBQ and potluck spread.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and made the day so special! Our sincere gratitude goes out to the incredible cooks who provided the feast, to our musicians, and to the dedicated team of organizers whose hard work made it all happen.
