Superintendent's Message
Breaking barriers

“… (I)n the dreary month of February, came the illness which closed my eyes and ears and plunged me into the unconsciousness of a new-born baby.”

Helen Keller lost her hearing, sight, and speech at the age of 19 months. She became an unruly child living in a dark and silent world – until her life changed.

AVID Students Thrive
“I love AVID because it gives me the materials and skills to improve my academics. I feel supported and prepared for the future.” – Carlos Montoya, sophomore at Rubidoux High School

AVID, short for Advancement Via Individual Determination, offers a powerful K-12 college preparatory curriculum to close achievement gaps and help prepare every student for success – in college and in life.

JMS Artist Earns Honor
Congratulations to Jurupa Middle student Vincent Robinson, whose artwork is part of a plaque that honors a state senator’s contributions to public education.

The showcased work, a collage, depicts a luminous sunset over the ocean, with hues of blue, red, cream and gold.

Sports Elevate Academics
More engagement. Fewer office referrals or suspensions. Training that builds healthy habits, life skills and character.

Sports at Jurupa elementary schools help students grow, achieve and learn without limits – in and out of the classroom. Athletics boost attendance, foster a positive school environment, and teach sportsmanship and good behavior, educators say.

RHS Memorial Salutes Vets
Rubidoux’s 2018 seniors sought a gift for their alma mater that would endure, inspire, matter.

By creating a veterans memorial wall, they delivered one.

The tribute, near the administration office and main quad, features a bronze plaque for each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard – with the phrase “All gave some – some gave all.”

JUSD Video Grads Shine
What does it take to create TV news: to write, edit and produce stories; to connect with a community; to appear on camera; to tell stories in compelling, impactful, and meaningful ways?

Jurupa graduates can tell us.

Nicolas Garcia and Alexis Thrower – profiled in the Q&A – used their video training at JUSD to seed successful careers in the television news industry. They, with thousands of other Jurupa alumni, have thrived in college and careers after graduation.

More Digital Distinction
Great news: A new case study highlights Jurupa’s work in training students to be smart, safe and respectful online.

The narrative, by the nonprofit Common Sense Education, notes that every student receives comprehensive digital citizenship training as part of the district’s commitment to learning without limits.

Sharing Kindness
District Initiatives
On November 4, 2014, 60% of voters approved the district's $144 million Measure EE "21st Century Readiness Job Training, Upgrade and Repair" bond measure. Updated information for Measure EE projects and more can be viewed here.
Local Control Accountability Plan
The LCAP is required to identify annual goals, specific actions, and measure progress for student subgroups across multiple performance indicators, including student academic achievement, school climate, student access to a broad curriculum, and parent engagement.
