3 New Principals Join JUSD
Meet the New Principals
"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."
John F. Kennedy

As site leaders, JUSD principals must shape a school's learning environment, provide strategic direction, lead teachers and staff, and ensure that students learn without limits - among a myriad of other responsibilities.

This school year, Jurupa Unified School district is proud to welcome new principals at three of the district's 26 campuses.

According to the new leaders themselves, their approaches include:

Project Lead the Way
From turning a simple screw to creating complex machines, JUSD students are learning robotics without limits.

Two courses at Mira Loma Middle School – Robotics 7 for seventh-graders and Robotics 8 for eighth-graders – teach students a range of coding and mechanical skills while laying groundwork for careers such as engineering, vehicle diagnostics and repair, and computer
programming.
Students Defy Adversity
On Aug. 12, vandals caused about $130,000 in fire damage to the playground
structure at Ina Arbuckle Elementary .

On Aug. 31, volunteers – led by 83 high school students – painted games and murals
on the Ina playground. The result: Ina’s 495 students have new opportunities for
fun and play and joy, along with lessons in compassion, unity and resilience.

New Chromebooks Dazzle
Curiosity and keystrokes: Jurupa students are learning with new laptops, thanks to JUSD’s award-winning Digital Gateway program.

This semester, Jurupa Unified assigned more than 19,000 devices, factory-fresh, to students in grades 2-12. The machines replace the district’s inaugural set of 2015 Chromebooks, which have run their expected operational course.

From the start, “students have been fearless” in exploring what their devices can do, said Josh Lewis, Director of Education-Information Technology for JUSD.

911 Beam Story
Awe. Sadness. Admiration for heroes.

Students at Patriot High School felt a range of emotions upon seeing, touching and ruminating on a steel beam pulled from the ruins of the World Trade Center after 9/11.

“It is crazy to think that a beam from the World Trade Center is here" in Jurupa Valley, said Jorge, a junior at Patriot. “I have never been to New York and never thought I would see an exhibit like this so close."

International Walk to School Day
Parent Involvement & Community Outreach
100 Mile Club has been the program leading the effort in the prevention of childhood and obesity across the nation. It is more than just a running program. We change lives. Improved school readiness to learn, increased motivation, student and family engagement, and the creation of a true Team Spirit that permeates and transforms school culture are evident in our 100 Mile Club Schools.

Making An Impact
Perhaps you’ve heard of Impact Teams – a super-teaching concept spreading through K-12 education and helping educators innovate, collaborate and refine their teaching methods based on student work.

Impact Teams are small groups of educators who work in partnership with students to improve feedback, instill a growth mind-set that promotes learning without limits, and better understand how specific actions affect student success.

Jurupa Unified introduced Impact Teams last year at six pilot sites: Patriot High; Mission Middle; and Granite Hill, Mission Bell, Peralta and Van Buren elementary schools. This year, the program has expanded to all but three campuses, which will start the program next year.

Local Control Accountability Plan
The LCAP is required to identify annual goals, specific actions, and measure progress for student subgroups across multiple performance indicators, including student academic achievement, school climate, student access to a broad curriculum, and parent engagement.
