Upcoming Sunday Services

10:30am

in-person in the Sanctuary

and on Zoom (link below)

November 5 - Generate Generosity

Rev. Caro Barschow, Minister

Perhaps we’ve considered generosity when it comes to an exchange of tangible gifts. What does generosity mean when it is part of a Unitarian Universalist covenant? Practicing generosity in relationships involves trust and care. Let’s delve into Generosity, one of the values proposed in the revision of UUA Bylaws Article II, the UU Principles and Purposes.

November 12 - Let’s Talk about Abundance

Rev. Caro Barschow, Minister

To live in the spirit of abundance fits into our values as Unitarian Universalists. How can abundance inform how we give and receive in the conversations we have with one another? This service will inspire and equip you to listen and speak from a place of abundance, a place of generosity in action.

November 19

Jud Wolfskill, Guest Speaker

Jud Wolfskill (he/him) is a candidate for ministry with the UUA and a graduate of Boston University School of Theology.

Green Kitchen at NSUU

Have you noticed that at coffee hour or cake celebrations or potlucks, we have a lot of disposable kitchenware? This is not really in keeping with our church’s green goals of Reuse-Reduce-Recycle.

Let’s make the NSUU kitchen a Green Kitchen. On November 5, after the service, we’ll have a kickoff meeting for this project. It’s just in the assessment stage, so YOUR input will make a difference.

Do you use the NSUU kitchen? Do you use kitchenware from the NSUU kitchen? Come on Nov. 5 and get in on the ground floor of this project.

Contact Iain Goddard (igoddarda@aol.com) or Susan Haas (susanann1812@yahoo.com) for more information.

Clothing Donation Update

Many thanks and appreciation for the donations of warm clothing and winter coats for individuals and families recently immigrated to this county. Many of these folks are staying in shelters and motels in our area. This is a communitywide effort by the Town of Danvers and other churches and will be on-going through November. We will continue to collect any items you bring in and deliver them to Danvers Town Hall. We ask if you can shift the focus to babies and children clothing and diapers, these are most urgently needed. Walmart and Market Basket gift cards will also be accepted. Again, thank you for your support. And thank you to Jean Koulack-Young and many others who are making sure the items get to their destination. If you have any questions, you can contact Jean Koulack-Young at 978-587-2935.

From the Board of Directors

SAVE THE DATE

November 12, 2023 @ 12:00pm

On 11/12/23 at noon we will be having an important Congregational vote on the following question:

Based on the size of our Congregation (less than 100) and our limited financial resources, do we want to hire a contract minister for church year 2024-2025 or do we want to start a second search for a full time settled minister for 2024-2025?

We urge all members to attend the meeting in person for the discussion and vote. If you are unable to vote but want to make sure that your vote is counted, please contact the Administrator for a proxy form.

If you have any questions about this vote, please be in touch with a Board member who can answer your question.

Thank you,

Susan Haas, Board Chair

Where does NSUU power come from?

The Northshore UU Church is an all-electric facility. We don’t burn any fossil fuels ourselves for heat or hot water. Where does the electricity come from? We are supplied by Danvers Electric Division, and their mix of electricity sources is currently only 39% carbon-based (and dropping). So we’re reducing our NSUU carbon footprint, indirectly, by supporting Danvers Electric.

Bob Gamer and Linda Leonard, from the Green Sanctuary Team, are monitoring Danvers Electric progress toward climate-friendliness and resiliency.

Sunday Hospitality Sign Up

We need to fill the sign-up sheet between now and the New Year, and we have many openings! Here’s how to get onto the “Hospitality Sign-up” on the Webpage. Go to NSUU, hit Connecting then Sunday Volunteers and then Hospitality Sign-up. The calendar will pop up and you can sign up for as many Sundays as you can. You may also use the paper sign-up sheet which is posted in the kitchen. Make sure to make a note to yourself on your own calendar about the dates you signed up for. If you are not able to come to church on that day, please find a friend to take your place. Many thanks! Susan Haas.

I Am More - a time for quiet reflection This time has been set aside for some quiet reflection of the stories behind Amy Kerr’s beautiful portraits that currently grace our sanctuary walls. The I Am More stories are quite powerful & if you haven’t had time to read them all fully you are invited to do so during this time.
