The Courage to Covenant

Rev. Carol Strecker speaking

A covenant is a mutual sacred promise between individuals or groups, to stay in relationship, care about each other, and work together in good faith. In Unitarian Universalist tradition, we seek to raise the “we” above the “I”, the community above the individual.

                                                                                UUA Commission on Appraisal

It takes courage to make these promises to one another and to hold one another accountable to staying in relationship, beginning again and again in love. This Sunday we’ll begin to give voice to the promises we can make to one another here at Northshore Church that can help us raise the “we” above the “I”, the community grounded in love above the individual.

Social Action Committee

Reaffirming our Commitment to be a Welcoming Congregation

Service by Gerri Cannon, “Stepping Out of the Shadows-Ignoring Stereotypes”

We were so inspired by our last service with Gerri. The Social Action Committee intends to continue our work in this area. Feedback and resource information is greatly appreciated.

Working on Ballot Questions 1 and 4: Mass Action

Question #4

Iain did a great job at our last service of laying out the concerns of Ballot question #4 regarding support for the “Work and Mobility Act” that allows all Massachusetts residents to apply for a standard driver’s license, regardless of their immigration status. Opposition is trying to repeal this law.

Question # 1: Fair Share amendment: aims to impose extra taxes on the wealthiest residents of the state and funnel the extra money into education and transportation.

Our friends at Mass Action, ECCO and the Beverly UU are looking for people to join in these campaigns with door-knocking and phone banking. Contact Cheryl Ferris: 978-660-7104 for more information.

Sunday Strolls

This Sunday, Oct 16, at 1:30, our Sunday Stroll will be at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, just off Rte 113, led by Iain Goddard and Rachel Williams.

The parking lot at Maudslay has a parking fee, unless you have a (lifetime senior!) pass. There is a large assortment of wildlife, including turtles, beavers, owls, and other critters. We will be walking 1 ½ to 2 miles over relatively flat terrain. Dogs are welcome.

This fall Bob Ferris is the Coordinator of the Sunday Strolls, and is looking for people to suggest locations, to lead strolls, and to join in the fun.

Rejoin your friends face-to-face and join us for Sunday Strolls.
