"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday !"

Rev. Carol Strecker speaking

Yes, it’s May! The days are longer and warmer now. In many UU congregations this is the time of year we begin to wrap things up for the more leisurely pace of summer. But the last couple of years have been anything but business as usual at NSUU. We’ve survived, even thrived in some ways during the pandemic but so much has changed - so much is changing. What’s next? That’s up to you, the congregation.

Mayday is an international distress signal that was adopted by the British because it sounds like the French m'aider, which means “help me.” It’s time for every person who cares about this congregation to respond to this distress call - to help answer some big questions: Who are we now? What are we here for? Who do we hope to become and what will it take to get there?

This service will provide some thought-provoking inspiration for a Congregational Conversation following the service at 11:30am. The Board needs to know what you want, what you’re willing to invest your time, treasure and talent in service to the future of NSUU.

"The Ancient Practice of Sound Healing"

Kristen Miller

Shamanic sound healer Kristen Miller discusses and demonstrates how sound can be used to heal ourselves and the world. Drawing on history and practical examples, Kristen shares some of the ancient sound healing practices from Nepal and Tibet.

From the Northshore Church Board of Directors ...

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m.

A Congregational Conversation will be held

following the Sunday service

Rev. Carol will abbreviate this service so that all of us can participate in a conversation about what we want in our next ministry. We hope that all of you will join in this hybrid conversation (in-person and over Zoom). Your feedback will provide much-needed guidance to the Ministerial Search Team as they begin the process of identifying candidates who will best meet our needs at NSUU.

NSUU Church 2022 Annual Meeting will be held

following the Sunday service on May 22.

From the Caring Team

The Caring Team is looking for a few folks to volunteer to be a driver when needed. This service has been helpful to many of our congregants in the past years as we strive to help members get to doctor's appointments or other medical services. At times there may be a need to travel to Boston, however, drivers never need to go places where they aren't comfortable to drive. Our drivers find helping others in this way is personally very rewarding.

(Being a volunteer is separate from being a member of the Caring Team.)

Loring Bradlee heads this group of volunteers. If you volunteer, when Loring receives a request, she will call or email to ask if you are available to drive.

Please email Loring lbradlee525@gmail.com or any other member of the Caring Team or Church Administrator Nancy Paskowski nsuu@verizon.net if you'd like to participate.

In Memoriam
Note received from Ken Milender--
This is just a quick note to let you know that Anne Milender (she of the annual Anne Milender Award) passed away Monday afternoon.
My mom always kept in touch with NSUU, but from a distance, after she and my dad moved north in 1988. My brother and I have many fond memories of growing up in the church during the 1960s and 1970s. I’ve found records that indicate that she was still an active contributor until the last year or so, both to the Danvers church and to UUA.

NSUU Sunday Strolls Start Again

Sunday Strolls will start again in the afternoon on May 1st and run through June 26. We need volunteers to lead each stroll. Stroll leaders:

·      Pick a favorite place, especially one you’ve been to recently, for a 1½-2-hour stroll.

·      Pick a meeting place.

·      Consider parking, bugs, path smoothness, grades, water hazards.

·      Establish whether there are parking restrictions.

·      Establish dog-friendliness of the place.

·      Work with the coordinator, Bob Ferris, to get the information out to the congregation.

So, please contact Bob at bobferris1949@gmail.com or by calling him at 978-660-7437 if you would like to lead a stroll. Share your favorite places with other members!
