Sunday Service

10:30 a.m. exclusively via Zoom (no in-person service)

"We Belong to the Earth"

Earth Day Celebration

Green Sanctuary Team & Guests

Join the Green Sanctuary Team and guests for our annual Earth Dayelebration. The seventh principle of Unitarian Universalism calls us to affirm and promote the interconnected web of all existence of which we are a part. There has never been a more important time to deepen our sense of connection with all that is and the reciprocity of our relationship with the Earth. The Earth will only take care of us if we take care of the Earth.

There will not be an in-person gathering in the sanctuary

this week. We’ll be meeting exclusively on Zoom.

You will find the link for the service on the homepage of our website; nsuu.org. We will resume our in-person option on May 1st. This important service will be followed by a congregational conversation to discuss the future of ministry at NSUU. Please plan to attend either in-person or on Zoom.

May 1, 2022 Sunday Service

10:30 a.m.

"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday !"

Rev. Carol Strecker speaking

Yes, it’s May! The days are longer and warmer now. In many UU congregations this is the time of year we begin to wrap things up for the more leisurely pace of summer. But the last couple of years have been anything but business as usual at NSUU. We’ve survived, even thrived in some ways during the pandemic but so much has changed - so much is changing. What’s next? That’s up to you, the congregation.

Mayday is an international distress signal that was adopted by the British because it sounds like the French m'aider, which means “help me.” It’s time for every person who cares about this congregation to respond to this distress call - to help answer some big questions: Who are we now? What are we here for? Who do we hope to become and what will it take to get there?

This service will provide some thought-provoking inspiration for a Congregational Conversation following the service at 11:30am. The Board needs to know what you want, what you’re willing to invest your time, treasure and talent in service to the future of NSUU.

From the Northshore Church Board of Directors ...

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m.

A Congregational Conversation will be held

following the Sunday service

Rev. Carol will abbreviate this service so that all of us can participate in a conversation about what we want in our next ministry. We hope that all of you will join in this hybrid conversation (in-person and over Zoom). Your feedback will provide much-needed guidance to the Ministerial Search Team as they begin the process of identifying candidates who will best meet our needs at NSUU.

NSUU Church 2022 Annual Meeting will be held

following the Sunday service on May 22.

Social Action

Indigenous Peoples Study Group

Save the date: April 24

We will be sponsoring a speaker

following the Sunday Service from 12 to 1:15

Title: Indigenous People of the North Shore.

The speaker will be Mary Ellen Lepionka of Gloucester. Mary Ellen is a retired anthropologist, college instructor, and textbook editor who embarked on a study of archeology and indigenous history of Essex County. This will be a zoom presentation. Coffee hour will end 10 minutes early so people can prepare for the presentation. Other UU churches will be invited to join us. The presentation will be entirely virtual, so stay on the same zoom link as the Sunday service.

Donations are still urgently needed

for the survival of Afghan women and families

We have helped 14 families so far to keep a roof over their heads as well as supplied food & fuel for heat and cooking!  Also, these homes are safe houses for others on the run from the Taliban. We are giving hope to those who have been left with no hope. Rachel Williams is coordinating this effort and has ways to get funds directly to these people. Please make checks payable to Help Women Heal, Inc. and send to Rachel Williams, 6219 Palma Del Mar Blvd S, St. Petersburg, FL 33715

Donations for Danvers Food Pantry and Operation Troop Support

With people back in the sanctuary, we are collecting items for these two important causes. Leave your donations in the baskets which can be found in Fellowship Hall.

·      Pick a meeting place.

·      Consider parking, bugs, path smoothness, grades, water hazards.

·      Establish whether there are parking restrictions.

·      Establish dog-friendliness of the place.

·      Work with the coordinator, Bob Ferris, to get the information out to the congregation.

So, please contact Bob at bobferris1949@gmail.com or by calling him at 978-660-7437 if you would like to lead a stroll. Share your favorite places with other members!
