"Transcending the Binary"

Rev. Carol Strecker speaking

June is PRIDE month. We celebrate the many ways people express gender and sexuality in our culture, many of which transcend cultural norms, male and female. Now more than ever it seems important to understand the issues facing people who don’t fit neatly into the gender binary of male and female. Learning from each other and expanding our understanding of the full range of human experience is an important way Unitarian Universalists can honor the worth and dignity of all people. Finding a spiritual home where you feel seen in the fullness of your humanity is what being a Welcoming Congregation is really all about.

The Annual Meeting will be held

immediately following the service.

Make the effort to ZOOM into the meeting

at 11:45 a.m.

Have your vote counted.

Flower Ceremony

Rev. Carol Strecker speaking

Come join us in person, outside (weather permitting) or via Zoom to celebrate this historic Unitarian ritual that lifts up the blessings of unity in diversity. Bring a flower or two to share if you’re able to join us in person. Bring a flower or two to your share with others on Zoom if you’re joining in from home. A highlight of this special day will be a celebration of the amazing gifts of volunteers and staff.

From the Board

Dear Members of NSUU,

In order to close out the current fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2022 and to conduct business at the start of the new fiscal year on July 1, 2022, it is imperative that we get approvals from the congregation on proposed by-law change, election of board, acceptance of the Treasurer's Year-End Report, acceptance of the new budget for FY23, and a directive for the Ministerial Search Team as to how to proceed. In order to complete these tasks, we must get approval from the members to withdraw funds either from our cash account, from our permanent funds or both, and to approve the withdrawal of funds for up to four years of the contract of a minister, beginning in FY24.

None of these things can be accomplished unless we have quorum present to cast their votes. Please do not leave these decisions to anyone else. Make the effort to ZOOM into the meeting on Sunday, June 5 at 11:45 and have your vote counted.

More from the Board.......

Good Things Are Growing at our Farm

Our farming season has officially started! Last Thursday Iain Goddard, Bob Ferris, Barbara Haight, Hal Morse and Susan Haas put the fence back up, put down the drip irrigation system, weeded, and planted cherry tomatoes, cabbage and kale. And for the finishing touch, Bob mowed the grass around the site! Beautiful. Barbara Haight put down the new addition of cardboard placed on the ground that will prevent the weeds from coming back up.

The two rows of potatoes, planted in the early spring are thriving. Rhubarb is ready to harvest, garlic is very tall. Radishes are planted next to the potatoes.

A Monarch butterfly is grateful for all the milkweed growing at the farm which she will need to lay her eggs on. She flies around the farm all day! Cute caterpillars are sure to follow.

We will be planting the Three Sisters (corn, beans, and pumpkin) this year, as well as cucumbers, zucchini, Danvers carrots and Danvers onions, and crooked neck squash as well as peas and pea pods. We hope the Danvers Food Pantry will enjoy the bounty of the farm all season long!!

Come visit us at Endicott Farm NSUU Garden in Danvers.

Afghanistan Refugee Family

A family who escaped from Afghanistan after US pulled out our forces has settled in Beverly. The father was involved in security for US military forces and he is here with his wife, who will soon have their third child, and two preschool sons. The local organization supporting them as they settle into life in the United States is eager to talk to our congregation about the family’s experience coming to this country and their needs as they start new lives here. Stay tuned for information about when this will occur. They need financial support as they begin their journey, and we will be letting you know how Northshore Church can help.
