Empathy and Volunteering - Images of Matches

A New Blog

Our Executive Director, Heather Lacey, has published her first blog. She'll be publishing more in the coming months and talking about issues that are important to the disability community.

"As National Volunteer Week wraps up, I have given much thought to this year’s theme of empathy. As the world opens up after two years of isolation and lockdowns, empathy is what will help us move forward as we try to navigate an increasingly complex world.

A whopping $209,100 was raised for ABLE2: Support for People with Disabilities at the 26th edition of Evening in the Maritimes. Thank you for buying a ticket or table, adopting a sea creature, shopping at The Lobster Shack, and bidding on the auction items. Every little bit of money raised will help people with disabilities and their families in our community this year.

You can revisit the evening by watching our video and checking out our photo gallery.

Faces of ABLE2

Ian and Warren are well known in the ABLE2 community and recently they were interviewed on CTV as part of the promotion for Evening in the Maritimes. They travelled to the offices of one of our sponsors, Warren Creates, Immigration Lawyer, to take part in the interview.

After the interview, Warren sent us this picture with a covering note that the twins had staged a coup d'etat and taken over his law practice. Ian also took on the role of a uniformed immigration officer and ordered his deportation!

Sibling Groups - Back to In-Person Meetings!

Siblings, Nolan and Rylee

Having a brother or sister who is living with a disability can be fun and challenging for children and teens. Our therapeutic groups offer the chance to: meet other children/teens who understand, share experiences, get information, do some fun activities and learn about different disabilities.

Participants, between the ages of 6 and 17 years, will be grouped by age. The groups meet on the first Wednesday of the month from October to May, and are led by trained and experienced Program Facilitators.

Registration for the 2022-2023 groups opens on July 1, 2022. Spots are limited, so act quickly.
