Volunteer Ally Michel Lumeya Ilonga: Matching Program.png

Two and half years ago, Michel Lumeya Ilonga moved from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Canada. Michel has supported people with disabilities throughout his life, and he was keen to continue doing this in Canada. Through researching volunteer opportunities on the Volunteer Ottawa website, he found ABLE2’s Matching Program.

In March 2021, Michel and Gilles were matched. They get together regularly to garden and go to restaurants. Michel reports that his match is going very well, and he has a message for anyone thinking of volunteering. “People really need our friendship. I know that sometimes we feel we do not have enough time, but for me, I know that my time with my Friend is a joy and so worthwhile.”
