FASD Awareness Walk: What a Day!

Saturday, September 10 was sunny and hot but this didn't deter over 100 people, including MPP, Joel Harden, Mayor, Jim Watson, Councillor, Jeff Leiper, Health Nexus' Executive Director, Wendy Katherine and ABLE2's Executive Director, Heather Lacey, walking to raise awareness of FASD and to celebrate those with lived experience.

“The [Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)] Youth Group has helped me a lot. I was always a person who was closed off and kept to myself. Being with people who are like me made me want to come out more and do more things. … I am so social now. I am someone who is afraid of making mistakes but being part of the Youth Group showed me there is nothing wrong with making mistakes. Being accepted makes me feel so much better about myself. And without the Youth Group, I would not be the happy person I am.”

Impacting Lives Together - September 28, 2022

ABLE2 and Reach hosted more than 80 volunteers and donors at the Museum of Nature. It was a night filled with fun, delicious food, drinks, learning, handling starfish, stroking sea cucumbers and networking. And MPP, Joel Harden, joined us to announce a substantial grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help ABLE2 rebuild its Matching Program volunteer team.

Anika & Liv

The pandemic has affected many people and organizations. ABLE2 is no exception. We are now in the rebuilding phase and need more volunteer Allies to support people with disabilities in our Matching Program. With the support of the Ontario Trillium Fund Resilient Communities Grant we launched an advertising campaign on CTV to attract more volunteers and our Executive Director, Heather Lacey, was interviewed on CTV morning.
