As a parent, teacher, student or school administrator, there are easy ways to reduce the school's and your own personal environmental footprints. Start the year out strong, with sustainability in mind.
Parents and students: Put Your Best Foot Forward
-
Check your inventory of school supplies before buying new items. When you purchase supplies, look for eco-friendly options made from recycled content.
-
Stop idling. If the drop-off or pickup lines are at a standstill (or if you are parked, waiting for the final bell), turn off the ignition—idling emits toxins from the tailpipe that contribute to air pollution but also can be harmful, especially to those with asthma.
-
Reduce lunch waste. Pack reusable utensils, try paper sandwich bags or silicon reusable bags, and pack a lunch that contains only the food that the student intends to eat.
