Virtual reality business gets a boost from NBDC
A former internet technology manager at First Data, Jeremiah Maddock gauged potential interest in a virtual reality (VR) arcade by bringing games on his PC to corporate parties and other events.  Ready to take the plunge, he came to NBDC for help putting together a business plan and financial projections for  the state's largest VR arcade.

Infinite Loop Virtual Reality Arcade in LaVista provides an interactive, computer-generated experience that takes place in a simulated environment, such as an action-adventure video game. There are nine VR bays offering more than 50 games. Four people can share each bay and multiplayer games can be played between bays.

"VR arcades are scattered all over the country but there isn't much competition around here," he says. The business is performing close to the projections he and his NBDC consultant put together. "Every month we see revenue grow," he says.

NBDC helps businesses stay locally owned

Before Cody Bridgman could purchase well-established funeral homes in Scottsbluff, Bridgeport and Mitchell, he was directed by his lender to the Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) office in Scottsbluff to obtain assistance analyzing the existing businesses and formulating financial projections.

Bridgman worked with Margaret Akin, director of the NBDC Scottsbluff office. "She came highly recommended and for good reason," Bridgman says. "She is knowledgeable and very passionate about what she does."

A Sandhills area native who was raised on a ranch and remains "a cowboy at heart," Bridgman worked for Joliffe Funeral Homes as a licensed funeral director before pursuing ownership.

NBDC consultant Margaret Akin
has 15 years experience with the Department Revenue in audit, taxpayer assistance and education. She also has a background in mortgage servicing and real estate sales. Akin is the center director for the NBDC Scottsbluff office and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
