Top Block system turns rubble and scrap into building materials

Since 2002, Top Block has been developing equipment that manufactures a decorative landscaping product.
In 2013, Top Block designed the MBM500, a concrete mixer, material feeder and block machine all rolled into one. The entire production system can be set up at a job site and put to use in minutes.

This portability makes it ideal for use in areas devastated by natural or man-made disasters.  After an earthquake, for example, the MBM500's recycling system can be placed in the heart of the destruction zone, using rubble to manufacture new blocks and walls. In 2017, Top Block focused on providing equipment to rebuilding efforts in Haiti, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Dick Uhing, NBDC consultant, assisted the company pursuing grant applications and information on reconstruction contractors.

Dick Uhing, MBA, CPP, is a government contracting consultant for the NBDC procurement technical assistance program, serving companies in northeast Nebraska. Uhing was recently named a distinguished alumnus by the Northeast Community College Association for his career achievements.
Prior to NBDC, he served for over 30 years in leadership positions at Norfolk Beverage Company, an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler.

Third Annual Meet the Buyers Conference was a success

On November 3, the NBDC Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) hosted the third annual Government Contracting Conference: Meet the Buyer at UNO's College of Business Administration in Omaha. Attended by buyers from local, state and federal agencies as well as prime contractors, the event increases opportunities for Nebraska small businesses to participate in government sales.

The Western Nebraska Procurement Conference Meet the Buyers was hosted by NBDC PTAC at Chadron State College on October 19.
