Hosanna Lutheran Church
Forest Lake, Minnesota
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.

From Pastor Linda

When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with them all and prayed. There was much weeping among them all; they embraced Paul and kissed him, grieving especially because of what he had said, that they would not see him again. ~From Acts 20

Dear Friends~
Nobody likes good-byes.  As a child you may have had a favorite toy or blanket that you never wanted to part with.  As a teenager it was probably somebody you considered a best friend.  As an adult most likely family and good friends.  Nobody likes good-byes, and many of us go to many lengths to soften or avoid them.  A colleague leaves or a friend moves, and we say it is not good-bye because we promise to have lunch, or to write, or to stay connected by Facebook.  Sometimes we avoid the moment altogether: I remember leaving my internship congregation, my final day there I arrived early, packed up and was ready to drive away before the staff arrived.  I don't like good-byes, they hurt my heart.
When Paul says good-bye to the Ephesians, he gets it right.  He remembers what they did together, he tells them what they mean to him, he commends them to God.  The word "good-bye" is a contraction of "God be with ye."  Saying it is a reminder that even when we are apart, God is with us both.  It is an act of faith that if God is with you and with me, then somehow we are still together.
On Sunday (December 11) we will wish Jackie Verdick a "God be with ye" as she readies to retire and head south to sunny and warm Arizona.  She will join her husband Terry who retired in October and has been the project manager as they remodel their home.  Jackie wears many hats at Hosanna and one of them is a dear friend to me.  I will miss her; her smile, her willingness to go above and beyond, her caring and compassionate heart, her sense of fairness and honesty in the midst of unsettled waters.   Jackie's final day at Hosanna will be December 24.  God be with ye, Jackie!!  You will be missed by all of us!
During worship we will publicly THANK Jackie for her service- following both worship services there will be treats and fellowship.
See you in church!  ~Pastor Linda

A Note From The Church Council
From the Church Council:
As we come to the end of 2016, we want to thank you for your generous gifts throughout the year to support the ministries of Hosanna Lutheran Church.   Thanks to the generosity of many people Hosanna continues to thrive;  worship continues to ground us in God's Word of grace,  children  and youth continue to learn the faith through education and service, we care for others  through Coats for Kids, FMSC and more.  As you plan your year-end charitable contributions we hope that you will consider a special gift to your church home.
As you consider your charitable gifts between now and the end of the year, remember that gifts made now can generate income tax deductions. To receive a credit for the 2016 calendar year for tax purposes, all gifts need to be postmarked or directed to the Hosanna by. Your year end gift can be placed in the offering basket, sent to the church office or given online from the church website-  http://www.hosannaforestlake.net/giving/ .

Are You Okay? Program
Forest Lake Senior Center is sponsoring this program that offers comfort, security, and autonomy for senior citizens, disabled, or anyone who may lack an ongoing support system. The FL Senior Center realizes that many senior citizens live alone and may not have a family member living locally. This program is not intended to replace any contacts with family or friend but rather offer an added source of knowing you are being checked on daily. This is a FREE service and all that participants need is a home telephone to receive daily calls. As a member, you select the time of day they wish to be called. You will be called the same time each and every day. In the event that numerous attempts to reach you have failed, an welfare check will be arranged to check on you. This may be a Forest Lake Police Officer
