Baptism River Inn:
National Forest Lodge:
Dear friend,

It's with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of the National Forest Lodge. Lura and I have had a wild ride this past year. The pandemic and civil unrest stemming from racial inequalities have caused many of us to reflect on our priorities. For us, it's moving beyond our "earning" years and reclaiming time to enjoy family, friends and passions. Others of us began working from home and discovered we could do our jobs anywhere; so why not in the wilderness? We never expected to go from running 2 businesses to zero in less than 3 months, but that's where we've found ourselves. Thank you all for sharing the last 20 years of our journey with us. To learn a little more, please read on...

We wish you health and happiness in all your endeavors,
Lura & Andy
Goodbye National Forest Lodge
100 years is a pretty good run, but all things eventually end. Lura and I have sold the lodge to a very wonderful family who we know will cherish this wilderness setting as we have. They will not be running the business, which means the end of Winter Ski Weekends and cabin rentals. The new owners plan to maintain the ski trails, so all can continue to enjoy its magical winter solitude. Read below for a couple of alternate lodging options close by you may want to explore. Thank you for your support over the past 13 years. We plan to split our time between Northern Minnesota and our other favorite paradise, Cabo.
Baptism River Inn Reimagined
In case you hadn't heard, the Baptism River Inn also has new owners. I have no doubt they will cherish it as we have and plan to continue to share it with others in amazing new ways. Here's a greeting from new owner Sara Peterson: "My sister Anne and I are grateful and excited for the opportunity to step in as your hosts at the Baptism River Inn. We will continue operating as a B&B this spring, then convert to whole-home vacation rental this summer, with the full 8-bedroom lodge available for multigenerational or multifamily vacations, yoga or book club retreats, etc. We will post more information at and in the coming weeks."
White Pine Retreat Still Renting
The White Pine Retreat will continue to be available to rent under new management. In case you weren't aware, my NFL neighbors, Mike and Joan, built this cozy cabin 5 years ago and offered us the opportunity to manage it for them. It will continue to be available with an awesome new couple as caretakers. It's dog friendly too! You can reserve it on Vrbo. Some of you may be aware of 4 condos right down the drive from the lodge. While they have no online presence, you can contact their manager, Barb Cooper, at (218) 365-6002 for more info.
