Remembering Sister Mary Mulligan, SNDdeN (1930-2023)

Sister Mary (Anna Marie) Mulligan was born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and called it home for most of her life. She became a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur in 1947 and embarked on a career in education. After teaching at St. Gregory School in Dorchester and St. Mary High School in Cambridge, she was missioned to her alma mater, Cardinal Cushing Central High School for Girls, where she served for 38 years, in time becoming principal.


Sister Mary Mulligan went home to her good God on September 27th, 2023, at the age of 93.

Sisters Celebrate a Hundred Years in Belmont, California

On Sunday, September 24th, our Sisters celebrated their centennial in Belmont, California! Hundreds of our friends and supporters joined us for a special liturgy and ceremony at Notre Dame de Namur University to celebrate the Sisters' legacy of courage.


As part of the festivities, Sister Jean Stoner, SNDdeN, accepted proclamations recognizing the Sisters' enduring legacy from Congressman Kevin Mullin, the office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Belmont Mayor Julia Mates.

Sisters Academy of Baltimore Welcomes New School President

On Friday, September 15th, Sisters Academy of Baltimore held a special Mass with the theme, “Blessed is She,” to welcome the students to a new school year, celebrate Our Lady’s birthday, and install Mrs. Kaliq Hunter Simms as the second President of Sisters Academy. Congratulations to Mrs. Simms on her new position!


Founded in 2004 by four religious congregations, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of Bon Secours, Sisters of Mercy, and Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Sisters Academy is a Catholic, community-centered middle school that educates girls of different races, ethnic groups, and religions, from families of limited economic means, particularly those in southwest Baltimore.

Notre Dame San Jose Welcomes New Head of School

On September 6th, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur joined Notre Dame High School in San Jose to celebrate the installation of Ashley Rae Mathis as the new head of school.


The inauguration occurred during NDSJ's annual pilgrimage of more than 750 people from the community to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. We welcome Ms. Mathis and wish her the best of luck in her new position!
