Remembering Sister Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN
Feb. 12 marked the 19th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sister Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN. She was murdered for her activism in the Amazon. We remain inspired by her courage and dedication. Our Sisters in Brazil and worldwide persist in Sister Dorothy's struggle for ecological and social justice.
Next year, on Jan. 10, Sister Dorothy will be honored at the Church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in Rome, Italy, a sanctuary for modern-day martyrs.

Sr. Harriet Cutting, SNDdeN (1934-2024) |
Sister Harriet Cutting, SNDdeN, was a beloved educator and religious director. She taught at several schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and served 36 years as Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph School in Salem, New Hampshire. She went home to her good God on Feb. 16, 2024, at the age of 89 and after 63 years of religious life.

Sr. Sharon Ann Skain, SNDdeN (1937-2024) |
Sister Sharon Ann Skain, SNDdeN, touched many lives teaching at several Notre Dame elementary schools and in her 22 years as Director of Right of Christian Initiation of Adults at St. Christopher Parish in San José, California. She went home to her good God on Feb. 18, 2024, at 87 and after 68 years as a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur.

Notre Dame Mission Volunteers Hold 2024 Mid-Year Conference |
Members of the Notre Dame Mission Volunteers-AmeriCorps (NDMVA) gathered over Presidents' Day weekend in Baltimore for the annual Mid-Year Conference. Volunteers met with Sisters and staff, working together on how better to bring goodness into the world.
This year's theme, leading together, was grounded in one of our hallmarks: We create community among those with whom we work and with those we serve.

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Expand into the Merrimack Valley | |
Enjoy the latest article in The Boston Pilot celebrating 175 years of an Enduring Legacy of Goodness in New England, written by Sister Eileen Burns, SNDdeN.
Within a decade after the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur arrived in Boston in 1849, they established a presence in the Merrimack Valley, dedicating their lives to educating, praying and sharing God's goodness among the people. This presence continues to this day.

Book Recommendation for Black History Month |
In honor of Black History Month, Sister Patty Chappell, SNDdeN, a lifelong advocate for racial equality and social justice, recommends the novel "We are Not Like Them" by Christine Pride and Jo Piazza. Told from alternating perspectives, from a black and a white woman, this novel explores friendship, love and race in contemporary society.

Notre Dame High School San Jose Students Serve Community
Notre Dame High School - San Jose students recently participated in an urban immersion service trip. As part of the trip, students served at the Impacto after-school program. They toured Homeboy Industries, where they heard the testimonies of ex-gang members who have turned their lives around and helped prepare meals for people living in the Guadalupe housing project. They also enjoyed a meeting with Sisters Caroline Sanchez and Mary Ellen Howard, SNDdeN.

Associates Organizing Shoe Drive for Asylum Seekers |
While volunteering at the Sisters' Welcome Center at the U.S.-Mexico border, Libby Hagman, an Associate of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and her husband, Roger, noted the need for comfortable shoes for children seeking refuge at the border.
In March, Libby and Roger plan to return with a car full of shoes.
