Remembering Sister Cynthia Lowell, SNDdeN (1956 - 2023)

Sister Cynthia Lowell entered the congregation in 1996 after a career as a teacher in Catholic schools in Rhode Island. After taking her first vows, she taught at St. Margaret and St. Patrick Schools in Lowell, Massachusetts. She loved teaching and managing the classroom. She also served as a receptionist at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center and then at Notre Dame Du Lac in Worcester, Mass.


Sister Cynthia Lowell went home to her good God on August 24th, 2023, at age 66, and after 27 years as a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur.

East-West Leadership engage with Women Religious across the Country

From August 8 -11, six members of the Leadership Teams of our East-West and Ohio provinces joined 890 other Women Religious for the 2023 Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Assembly in Dallas, Texas. The theme of this year's assembly was 'Drawn by Sacred Mystery: A Journey into Hope.'

As part of the events, Sister Eileen Burns, SNDdeN, led a breakout workshop entitled "International Congregations: The Unique Challenges of Our Emerging Future," along with Mary Anne Foley, CND, and Sally Hodgson, CSJ. This workshop focused on the blessings and challenges of being an international congregation!


Through engagement with the LCWR, our Sisters are active in shaping the emerging future of Women Religious and the shaping of mission in our evolving world. Together, the LCWR raised approximately $85,000 for the poor and marginalized in the Dallas area.

Jubilee Celebration in Belmont, California

On August 27, 2023, our E-W Province Jubilarians in California were honored at a celebration in Belmont, California! The Jubilarians celebrated their many years of dedication and service with a special Mass and luncheon, surrounded by friends, loved ones, and fellow Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur!

Standing with Refugees from Ukraine and Haiti

Up to 1,000 Ukranian and 300 Haitian children have been resettled to the Chicopee, Mass., area, seeking refugee from the turmoil in their homelands. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, together with our Associates, Sisters of Mercy, and area churches, have organized a collection of new fall and winter clothing for these children, ranging from three months to high school-age teenagers.


In addition to warm clothing for the coming cold, they will collect diapers, toys, gift cards to Kohl's and Target, toiletries, and other essential supplies.

Mark your Calendars: Catholic Non-Violence Days of Action

Join us in observing the Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, a project of Pax Christi International, running from 21 September to 2 October.


This event aims to recognize the centrality of nonviolence to our faith. This year’s theme is ‘Blessed are the feet of those who bring nonviolence’.

Good News from NDA Tyngsboro!

We are very proud of NDA Tynsboro for their dedication to the hallmarks of the Notre Dame learning community, particularly their devotion to the environment and the tenets of Pope Francis' Laudato Si' encyclical.
