Quilts, Past and Present
By Susan Sowers
Susan began making quilts in the 1990’s, as a counterbalance to working in a sometimes stressful technical career. The beauty of the materials, textures, and techniques absorbs her and she loves the connection with other quilters past and present. Her quilts run the range from traditional patterns and techniques to more contemporary colors and geometric shapes, and she often takes inspiration from visits to museums as well as nature.
All of the quilts on display are machine pieced, using a standard home sewing machine. Although some quilts are hand quilted, most are quilted using the same sewing machine.
Nearly all the quilts are made from cotton, with a small amount of silk. A few of the cotton materials are hand-dyed, most notably the blue indigo.
