|
Monica Driscoll, Staff Development Skills Training Coordinator, and Kim Moore, Workforce Solutions Representative, pose with this year's TeachME graduates
Graduates of Goodwill's second TeachME (Teach Employment and Career Help-Maine) job training program graduated on May 3, armed with skills to enter the local workforce. TeachME is an employment program for refugees and immigrants in greater Portland that offers job training for individuals seeking employment in their new place of residence. The program offers soft skills training, such as basic computer skills, interviewing, how to fill out a job application and professionalism.
TeachMe also offers a hands-on and practical training component in the retail sector. Students received in-store training at the Maine Mall Store for six weeks, in addition to classroom learning time. Participants gained skills in customer service, merchandising and pricing, and store operations, including donations handling and operation of the POS (Point of Sale) register system.
Graduates will receive a certificate listing their skills and competencies. Goodwill Workforce Solutions worked with local businesses to help the graduates find employment. Several of the graduates have already found employment with Goodwill, Hannaford, Portland Regency Hotel and Walmart.

|

Steve Hebert, Derry Store Manager, cuts the ribbon at the Derry Grand Opening
Goodwill celebrated the grand opening of the new Derry Goodwill Store & Donation Center on May 10. Doors opened to customers waiting in line and sales remained strong throughout opening weekend.
The new Derry store and donation center is located in the new Pinkerton Place Plaza at 19C Manchester Road (Route 28). The new 16,125 square foot building features a convenient donation drive-thru and several environmentally-friendly aspects, including an energy-efficient HVAC system, polished concrete floors (which eliminates the need for harsh chemical cleaners), outdoor LED lights and large windows to reduce electricity use. The building is also engineered for Energy Star compliance, which means Goodwill will be able to apply for Energy Star status after one year of operation. The new Derry store replaces the former Londonderry location. The store is open Monday-Saturday, 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday 9 am to 7 pm.The new Derry Goodwill store employs nearly 50 full and part time staff. Many thanks to all the different departments that came together to make Derry another successful grand opening! |

The team will discuss what is needed to implement the idea, if the proposal aligns with Goodwill's mission and strategic plan and any costs involved. Remember, the more information you give, the better the chances your idea will be implemented.
All ideas are published on Goodwillnet and you can also check the status of your submitted idea. If you have questions about the program, please email ideas@goodwillnne.org. Interested in reviewing ideas? The Lean team is looking for employees to join the G.R.O.W.T.H. initiative. Please contact Jim Demint at (207) 774-6323.
