Big impact - changes in the OTR tyre market
Whether you call them off-the-road, OTR or earthmover tyres, these products are some of the most valuable tyres in the market. And with good reason. Not only are they the physically largest tyre product segment on the planet, these products are often also required to endure the greatest pressures in the most unforgiving circumstances. However, due to the relative small unit volumes involved combined with the high individual values of each product, prices in this segment - perhaps more than any other - feel the international ripple effects of legislation, supply and demand around the world.

So, when there's a production problem in one country, there can be a supply problem around the world. And when there's a tariff in one country, product will need to be sold in other markets or at higher prices in the tariff-affected area. With the US Department of Commerce considering a new round of tariffs against OTR tyres produced in China, in the May issue of Tyres & Accessories, we consider all the big news from this large sector.
Tyre retail and buying groups
Tyres & Accessories continues to track the leading tyre retail chains and their position in the evolving UK market. Over the last decade, market consolidation has meant that the top five players control much of the market, though each of these has been subject to variously right-sizing and growth. May's feature will look at the current tyre retail landscape, including the latest news from the sector.
Wheels
Aluminium wheels - cast and forged - have continued to grow in popularity and pervasiveness in the global wheel market, both in the consumer and commercial markets, with output continuing to grow in China and the rest of Asia. In Europe, the safety of commercial vehicle wheels has come under increased scrutiny, with more diverse products making fitment compatibility an important consideration. May's Wheel feature will look at market developments and the latest products from key market players.
