Greetings!

This week we'll be exploring the Allegheny Front Trail, located in Snowshoe, PA (about 30 minutes from State College). We'll be offering 2-mile guided hikes at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 19. Please see below for complete details about the day.

The Allegheny Front Trail is a 42-mile loop that was created in the 1990's by a variety of hiking groups and organizations. The trail features some of the best views of our region and promises a challenging yet rewarding outdoor adventure for those who visit. On Sunday, we'll hike approximately two miles total while learning about the microclimate of the area and stopping at some truly majestic views along the way. For those interested in visiting this destination but prefer a shorter hike, please speak with a Centred Outdoors Ambassador upon arrival for information about alternative walks at this site.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us at one or more of the 18 natural destinations we have explored in and around Centre County this season! After this weekend, we will offer guided hikes at one more destination-the Jean Aron Path on September 26. Then beginning October 10, we invite you to join us on Sunday afternoons for self-guided adventures through November. For these destinations, a Centred Outdoors Ambassador will be on-site from 12 - 5 p.m. to help you choose the trail and experience that's best for you.

Thanks, we hope to see you this Sunday on the trail!

Join us at the Allegheny Front Trail
Sunday, September 19, 12 - 6 p.m.

Schedule:

Guided hikes at 1 pm and 3 pm: Climb up the Allegheny Front and look out over the Centre region from one of highest vantages. Visitors can see the effects of the microclimate the front produces as the fall colors set in much earlier and the types of flora vary drastically than those found in the valleys below.

12:00-6:00 pm: Enjoy a self-guided adventure: Visitors can also explore the trail at their own pace during a self-guided adventure throughout the day.

Difficulty Level: The difficulty level of this trail is moderately challenging to difficult. The guided hike will take a forested path with no surface improvements, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Child carriers for younger children are also suggested, as this destination is not suitable for strollers. Alternative routes starting on Underwood Road are possible - speak with a Centred Outdoors Ambassador for adventure suggestions and hiking options. Please email info@centredoutdoors.org with any questions about preparing for this adventure.
