Circa 1805 Pale Stout
I have been kicking around the idea of including the Barclay Perkins 1805 Pale Stout from Hertfordshire, England for over a year. The history about Barclay Perkins, and their Pale Stout, may never amount to more than a mention in any publication. However, I do enjoy challenging convention. When we don't take the time to understand history, we run the risk of going through life thinking carrots were always orange. As for the beer, the recipe is only comprised of Hertfordshire 2-Row Malt and East Kent Golding hops. Any attempt at a clone recipe may be a bit uninspiring.
