RAIN OR SHINE - EBT ACCEPTED - DOG FRIENDLY
Ahh, technology, it's great when it works. In the last 24 hours our online email platform, 'Constant Contact' just was not cooperating. So please accept our apology for this very tardy e-newsletter. Fortunately, there's still time to make your market shopping list. And it might be a long one because we've hit that magical moment when the summer and fall harvests intersect. So this week you'll find sweet corn, tomatoes, and peaches alongside Honeycrisp apples and gorgeous grapes. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, and don't forget that VegFest will be in full swing, just down the block at Riverside Park (from 11am-5pm).

Plum & Cream Cheese Scone Cobbler
From Smitten Kitchen
|
When it comes to stone fruits, plums probably wouldn't win any popularity contests. Yes, they're delicious and come in an astounding number of varieties. But somehow they always remain in the shadow of the mighty peach. Well, we're gonna made a bold statement here, but when it comes to baking, we ('we' being the EFM management) declare the humble plum superior to the peach! When cooked, plums get sweeter and more vibrant and almost jam-like. And even over ripe plums are great for baking. So give this yummy cobbler recipe a try!

Tomatoes are still ripening like crazy and we've got plenty to continue our tomato bulk bag sale! Now's the time to freeze them, can them or turn them into sauce and salsa for the winter! My favorite way to preserve tomatoes is to quarter and can them in mason jars. They're perfect for soups, stews and chilis in the wintertime! But if canning is not your thing or time is not on your side, whole frozen tomatoes are the way to go. As they defrost, the skin peels right off and they're ready to cook with right away! Take advantage of this beautiful weather mother nature has gifted us with and stock up on summer's bounty of tomatoes! - Jess
Also available this week: Head lettuce, lettuce mix, arugula, spicy european mesclun mix, kale (red curly, green curly, tuscan), swiss chard, collard greens, scallions, carrots, dill, parsley, cilantro, slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, green zucchini, yellow zucchini, cucumbers, english style cucumbers, red potatoes, yukon gold potatoes, red onions, leeks, yellow onions, basil, celery, eggplant, green bell peppers, jalapenos, poblanos, sweet bell peppers (red, orange, yellow), and sweet Italian horn peppers.

"What are those brain coral flowers?" - "Oh those are called cockscomb celosia!"
It's probably Holy Cow's most frequently asked question, and for good reason! They look funny, feel funny, have a funny name, and are just so fun. A member of the widely varied Celosia family, Cockscomb are a long lasting bloom that comes in a bunch of bold colors. They work well in bouquets as a fun texture and pop of color, and there's nothing quite like a small bunch of cockscomb in a vase. 'Tis the season for cockscomb right now at Holy Cow Flowers, they'll be gone in a just a couple more weeks. So be sure to stop by their booth to check out these amazing blooms!
