Dear Active-Duty Resident Families,
We understand that the shutdown has created challenges for many of our residents, and for some, this may be the first time experiencing something like this. Please know that The Properties at Wright Field (PWF) is here to support our military families as we work through this together.
Information has evolved day to day since the shutdown began, and what we know today differs even from yesterday’s newsletter update. Because active-duty residents pay rent in arrears, the payment we received from DFAS on October 1 covered September’s rent. Any future impact will depend on how long this shutdown lasts.
At the start of the shutdown, we were advised that DFAS will issue automatic back pay to active-duty personnel once the government reopens. However, this back pay may not be automatically applied toward rent, so any deferred rent will need to be paid manually once pay resumes.
Rent paid by allotment is processed through DFAS – half at mid-month and half at the end of the month – and then transferred to PWF on the first of the following month. Depending on the duration of the shutdown, DFAS may process the full end-of-month payment (if the government pays BAH during the shutdown or reopens before the end-of-month cutoff date), or the military member may need to make a manual payment for October once pay resumes and/or back pay is issued.
Regardless of the President’s authorization for the October 15th pay for military members, there is still uncertainty for future pay if the shutdown persists. We are navigating this uncertainty with you and PWF will not charge late fees or penalties to our active-duty residents affected by this shutdown.
Our hope is that this shutdown does not last long. In the meantime, we will do our best to answer questions, provide guidance, and work with residents through this period of uncertainty. This information may continue to change as the shutdown persists, but please know that we will navigate this situation together.
For all other residents, rent remains due as outlined in your lease agreement.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.
Warm regards,
Tonya Patrick
Director of Property Management
