“Virginians have been working hard, and we are seeing the results in our strong vaccine numbers and dramatically lowered case counts,” said Governor Northam. “That’s why we can safely move up the timeline for lifting mitigation measures in Virginia. I strongly urge any Virginian who is not yet vaccinated to do so—the vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and your community from COVID-19. The message is clear: vaccinations are how we put this pandemic in the rearview mirror and get back to being with the people we love and doing the things we have missed.”
Governor Northam, General Assembly Leaders Outline Shared Priorities for $4.3 Billion in Aid from American Rescue Plan Amid Record Rise in State Revenues
“We stand united on how to position Virginia for the future,” the leaders said. “We intend to meet in special session this summer for the express purpose of allocating federal dollars to five specific needs: public health, small businesses, workers, public schools, and broadband.”
“Virginia is posting the largest monthly revenue increase in the 21st century this month, in sharp contrast with many other states,” said Governor Northam. “Make no mistake—this is the result of strong fiscal management and Virginians doing the right things to put this pandemic behind us. People are getting back to work, businesses are investing, and we expect this surge to continue in the months ahead as our economy returns to full strength.”
“This emergency declaration will help the Commonwealth prepare for any potential supply shortages and ensure Virginia motorists have access to fuel as we respond to this evolving situation,” said Governor Northam. “We will continue working closely with our federal, state, and local partners to mitigate the impacts of this incident in Virginia.”

“As you consider infrastructure and climate-related funding, we ask that you include the Billion for the Bay Initiative,” the leaders wrote. “This is an opportunity to achieve the long-elusive goal of restoring the Chesapeake Bay, while creating significant new job opportunities, building resilience to climate change, and protecting landscapes and waterways across multiple states.”
