Governors Island Tour
--arranged and led by Bob Mitchell--
Friday, October 24, 2025
Join us for a tour of Governors Island, an unknown gem in New York Harbor,
and perennial favorite of the Y's Men.
The easy walk is about 1½ hours, followed by lunch.
Many of you have may never have experienced this NYC park
off lower Manhattan, near the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
And if you have been there, come and enjoy it again.
About the Tour
We get to the Island by ferry from Battery Park.
We then stroll around the Island, viewing the historical buildings and
the park amenities that NYC has been developing over the past few years.
View the two nineteenth century forts.
Learn the history of seventeenth century New Amsterdam/New York.
And glimpse the spa, and the ''glamping'' site with a view of Miss Liberty!
We'll then return to Battery Park for lunch (optional).
Should be able to catch a 3:00 train home from GCT.
Getting there
To ensure sufficient time to explore the island before lunch,
we'll take the 8:29 train from Westport to Grand Central.
(This train is peak fare; the return at any time is half-price for seniors.)
Meet on the Saugatuck or Greens Farms train platform.
Alternatively, meet up at Grand Central by the clock in the main hall by 10:00.
After time for bathroom visits,
we'll take the Lexington Ave express subway to Bowling Green.
A five-minute walk to the Governors Island ferry.
(The ferry is free for seniors,)
NO CHARGE,
BUT PLEASE RSVP TO THE TOUR LEADER, BOB MITCHELL,
SO WE KNOW WHO TO EXPECT.
