The F-Word: Stories of Forgiveness
April 10th-20th* from 8:30am-8:00pm
(*Closes at noon on April 20th)
The Sanctuary Narthex

This exhibit is a thought provoking collection of arresting images and personal narratives exploring forgiveness in the face of atrocity. Drawing together voices from South Africa, America, Israel, Palestine, Northern Ireland and England, the exhibition examines forgiveness as a healing process, a path out of victimhood and, ultimately,  a journey of hope.

Grace Avenue is pleased to be the first congregation in Texas to host this traveling exhibit which has been featured in locations all over the world. During our Lenten journey focused on forgiveness, we invite you into this meaningful and transformational experience.

Please share this Facebook Event to help spread the word about this amazing opportunity.  Contact Joe Stobaugh at joe@graceavenue.org  with questions.

This exhibition, shown for the first time in Texas at our church will be incorporated into this service where we remember the last night of Jesus' life, when he instituted the sacrament of Holy Communion and washed the disciples feet. This interactive service will bring you closer to the work of God in your life and in our world.

Facing the darkness of Good Friday, allows us to truly experience the joy of Easter morning.

Holy Saturday | April 20th | Worship Center | 5:30pm
In the tradition of the early church, we will anticipate and continue to wait on Christ's resurrection by celebrating the baptism of adults and families in our congregation who have never been baptized. The service will include a special Holy Saturday message. The service, with its emphasis on adult baptism, will not be a duplication of our Easter Sunday services, but rather is a unique event during Holy Week.

WORD ON THE STREET

Dear Grace Avenue Family and Friends,

A significant exhibit is coming to a church in Texas for the very first time. The internationally acclaimed F-Word Exhibition is coming to Grace Avenue UMC April 10-20.  The F-Word in this case stands for forgiveness and the exhibit tells 18 powerful stories about how forgiveness changes the world.  The exhibit is part of the larger work of an organization called The Forgiveness Project which "provides resources and experiences to help people examine and overcome their own unresolved grievances."

In 2016, Laura and I had the opportunity to experience this exhibit at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.  Moving from story to story was similar  to what I experienced when I walked the Prayer Labyrinth as I did this past week.  Each story reveals another layer of how forgiveness is a true gift from God. With each story I encountered my own need to forgive and be forgiven. We chose specifically for the exhibit to be here the last 10 days of Lent because it will remind us of God's ultimate forgiving and redeeming work in Jesus Christ.

The F-Word Exhibition will be inside our building in the areas adjacent to the Sanctuary.  It will be open from 8:30am - 8:00pm each day (closing at noon on Saturday, April 20th).  It is also a wonderful opportunity to invite friends, guests and community members from across the religious spectrum to experience this world class display. It is a wonderful solitary meditation activity but I would also encourage you to gather a group of friends, see the exhibit and then go and share a meal, or a cup of coffee, while discussing what you learned and experienced.

Lent brings the fullness of our salvation in Christ into full view.  Forgiveness is an essential part of this our story.  I encourage you to make the time to join with your neighbors, friends and family at this moving and powerful exhibition called The F-Word.

With You on Grace Avenue,

Billy Echols-Richter
Pastor
