Thrift Store: The Thrift Store continues to function at Grace Episcopal to serve the needs of those who would otherwise not be able to afford some of their necessities. I am told that this is a mission that was started many years ago at Calvary Episcopal and Grace has picked up the torch and carried on. As with any mission there are things that are needed to continue the work. As I said in my report to the Annual Meeting, “We are in real need of help in the Thrift Store.” The current staff is, however, stretched to the limit. With the need to have two volunteers each Friday they need to work every other week. With additional volunteers the frequency of attendance would be lessened, as well as assuring coverage during vacation periods. Our needs of course extend to products. When I recently asked what was needed, I received this reply, “We do need men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and coats. We can always use linens, bedding, towels, and household goods. Warm socks, boots, almost everything is needed.” Donations can be left under the stairs near the church office during regular hours or brought down to the Thrift Store on Fridays between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. We are grateful for any donations that are clean and in good condition; but please limit them to no more than three bags at a time, so that the staff does not become overwhelmed. Thank you for whatever assistance you can give.
St. Margaret’s Food Pantry at Grace Church
Food Pantry: The St. Margaret’s Food Pantry at Grace Church is still in need of peanut butter, mac and cheese, canned soup, chili, fish, chicken, vegetable, fruit, pasta and stew, cereal. Crackers, granola bars, instant mashed potatoes, nuts, pasta, rice, shelf stable and powdered milk etc.
The Hannaford Store Leadership Team has selected St. Margaret's Food Cupboard at Grace Church as the February 2024 Nonprofit Partner for the Bloomin' 4 Good Program at: 1122 Mohawk Street, Utica, NY. This means for every specially marked Bloomin' 4 Good bouquet sold at this location during February 2024, Hannaford will donate $1 to our food pantry.
Souper Bowl of Caring: St. Margaret's Food Pantry at Grace Church is participating in the National "Souper Bowl of Caring" campaign. The pantry will be collecting canned soups and stews starting today, and concluding on "Super Bowl" Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024. Donations may be dropped off before/after services on Sundays or at the church office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Monetary contributions also are being accepted and may be mailed to Grace Church, 6 Elizabeth St., Utica, NY 13501, Attention: Food Pantry, "Souper Bowl of Caring."
