The 158th Annual Convention
of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh
| |
Please join us for the 2023 Diocesan Convention which will be held on Saturday, November 11th at Trinity Cathedral from
7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided for all in attendance.
Information about convention is available here including a tentative agenda and registration details.
The work of convention is integral to the health of the diocese. We appreciate clergy and lay deputies of each parish giving their time to make decisions that will contribute to the well-being of the diocese.
In addition to the work of convention, spiritual formation is also something we treasure. This year we will be holding a formation day separate from the Diocesan Convention. This will occur in late April/early May 2024. Details on the formation day will be announced at a later date.

The Rev. Canon Eric McIntosh &
“It’s All About Love: A Festival for the Jesus Movement”
| |
Members of The Episcopal Church gathered for the “It’s All About Love: A Festival for the Jesus Movement” in Baltimore, Maryland from July 9th-12th this summer. The festival was a part of an ongoing revival in The Episcopal Church and this year evangelism, racial reconciliation and creation care were highlighted.
The Rev. Eric McIntosh, Canon for the Beloved Community Initiative, says “It was an amazing festival. If I had to use one word to describe it, I would say: joy. It was absolute joy. I thought that everyone there was not only expecting to get joy but was already ready to put their joy into it.”
|
At the festival, Canon McIntosh presented his work on “Reading the Bible Through the Beloved Community Lens” to a full room of about one hundred people. By the end of his presentation, Canon McIntosh observed that “It was clear that everyone wanted to keep going, to continue this conversation.” After the presentation, he was invited to continue the conversation in seven cities across the United States.

St. Thomas, Oakmont, Church Hosts Advent Procession with the Ambrose Romanos Singers
The season before Christmas can be a hectic and busy time, sometimes filled with anxiety and rushing, pushing out the joy and serenity that the carols seem to promise.
Start this December with an evening of heavenly music and peaceful prayer. The Ambrose Romanos Singers, a choir that sings music both from Eastern Byzantine and Western Christian traditions, comes to St. Thomas Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, to lead an Advent Procession to welcome the season. Named for St. Ambrose of Milan and St. Romanos, known as the “Melodist” or “Sweet-Singer”, this choir of men and women was formed in 2001, led by J. Michael Thompson, and has been singing in various churches of Pittsburgh ever since.
The Advent Procession begins at 4 p.m. inside of the church. Afterward, there will be a reception to welcome the choir and guests who come. This visit by the choir begins a year of various events celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the parish in 2024.

The Rev. Dr. Terry Hunt Honored
for 35 Years of Ordained Ministry
| |
On Sunday, October 15, the folks at All Souls in North Versailles "surprised" the Rev. Dr. Terry Hunt with a celebration of her 35 years of remarkable ordained ministry. Family and friends attended the morning service and a luncheon held in her honor. As these family and friends came into the church right before the service, the surprise was suddenly no secret!
