Prayer in the Time of Transition:
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bible Study: The Song of Songs #7
For the 8 weeks of the summer, we will read the Song of Songs (also known as the Song of Solomon): A collection of poems celebrating the beauty of creation and the ever-renewing and unending power of love, human and divine. We will send an e-meditation every week, and hard copies will be available and posted on our website: www.gracechurchwhiteplains.org or to read Introduction and Song #1
Song of Songs #6 , Song of Songs, Song of Songs#7

Angelus Deadline - THIS SUNDAY August 12th Contributions to the upcoming Fall Angelus are always welcome .  Contact [email protected] .

NEXT SUNDAY: August 19 - Confirmands Meeting after 9 AM Service in the library.
James Heffner will lead the discussion to finalize plans for the Labor Day BBQ, and Mother Judith will outline the plans and schedule for Confirmation preparation. Please bring your calendars so that we can schedule class meetings together.

Vestry Update:  At their monthly meeting on July 24, the Vestry discussed the ongoing work of three research teams exploring options for the elevator repair, the rectory repairs, and the organ fund. They debated alternative means of funding these projects. This conversation is ongoing, and the Wardens and Vestry will inform the congregation when they have decided on a plan. Meanwhile, work continues installing a new security system, reviewing historical and legal documents, re-organizing our files and our storage spaces, and preparing our space for the program year.

Parish Retreat: Change the Date – Our Parish Retreat, originally scheduled for September 7 & 8 has been changed to Saturday, December 1, 2018, 10am – 6 pm.  Given the different responsibilities requiring the attention of the Search Committee and the Vestry during the fall, we thought it best to change our plans. We also want this to be a day when both our English-speaking and our Spanish-speaking members will be able to pray, sing, eat, and talk together. This requires a different kind of planning. We also want to have age-appropriate sessions for children and youth, and not only does this require different planning, but the beginning of the school year is not the best time for wide participation. December 2 is the day before Advent begins – a “liturgical new year’s eve,” of sorts, and it is therefore a more appropriate time for all of us to gather in thanksgiving for the past year and in asking God’s grace on the new ministry you will be about to begin. The day will end with our First Saturdays at Grace Holy Eucharist and a potluck dinner.

Grace's Kitchen Labor Day BBQ - Sept. 3rd
Volunteers Needed for Grace’s Kitchen Labor Day BBQ
Grace’s Kitchen staff will have the day off on Monday, Sept. 3. The Confirmands and the Young People of Grace, coordinated by James Heffner, are organizing this event. Let’s all support our young people of Grace Church.  Please consider volunteering (even for an hour) to set up, serve food and/or clean up between 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Monetary donations and food contributions (salads, fruits, juice and/or soda) are always appreciated. Monetary donation can be mailed to the parish office.
A Sign-up Sheet for food contributions is posted outside of the Parish Hall.
Please contact James Heffner( [email protected] )
Bishop's Visitation: Sunday, October 28
11AM Bi-lingual Service
Please see Mother Judith or Father Adolfo to discuss how to prepare for Baptism, Confirmation, Reception into the Episcopal Church (if you have been confirmed in the Lutheran or Roman Catholic traditions), and Renewal of Baptismal Vows.
The Bishop’s Visitation is a very important milestone in the life of the church: Please plan to be present to welcome Bishop Dietsche, to celebrate with our Confirmands, and to give thanks for the grace that has brought us together.
Report from the Search Committee
The Search Committee has completed its period of “receiving names”, and now is moving to evaluating and interviewing candidates. This may take some time depending on Diocesan review and candidate availability, and it will be followed by site visits where applicable. The Committee will not be able to comment during this process, which we expect to conclude with the recommendation of three candidates to the Vestry. We ask your prayers for success.

The Parish Profile is posted on our website. To read click here.
