“I will come back and take you to be with me
so that you may be where I am.”
-Jesus-
“Let’s do lunch - my treat!”
You have probably heard those wonderful words of someone who wants to spend time with you. Perhaps it is a friend you haven’t had time to talk with in so long. Maybe it was your father, who just wants to spend time with his son. Or was it a co-worker who wanted to show how much you are appreciated and loved? “My treat” informs you there is no obligation on your end. Short on money? No problem. Over budget? No need to worry. You are simply invited because someone wants to be with you. The Lord wants nothing more than to be with his people.
In the Garden, The Lord wanted to be with Adam and Eve.
In the desert, The Lord traveled with his people Israel.
On the dry seabed, The Lord moved with his people between walls of water.
On the sea, The Lord walked to his disciples.
On the road, The Lord rode to Jerusalem.
After rising from the dead, He went through locked doors to eat with his disciples.
Throughout history, The Lord makes it clear that He wants to dwell with his people, but oftentimes his people do not want to dwell with him. This week, we continue The Story in chapter 14. Solomon, David’s son, dies and his family is heading to a fork in the road. Sadly, the kingdom is torn in two because God’s people did not want to dwell with him. “I will be with you,” were God’s words to Jeroboam, but God’s Word was not enough. Jeroboam wanted control, and eventually, Idolatry was nationalized - and many worshiped false gods like golden calves -sound familiar?
We do the same. We don’t take time to dwell with God, because we have idols too. You know what they are - Sunday appointments, evening obligations, apps to scroll through, websites to browse, sports events to attend. We are busy - too busy for God. Though God wants to dwell with us, we don’t want to dwell with him, because we have golden calves to spend time with. We are the teen on Friday night who wants to be “independent”, but asks mom for money. We are the college student that can’t wait to get away but then calls crying as she feels all alone. But we are not talking about the movies on Friday night, or the dorm room breakdown- we are talking about eternity. The Apostle Paul states,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith..” AWESOME!
“—and this is not from yourselves,” OOOF! (I want to control things like Jeroboam)
“It is a gift from God.” HOORAY!
We cannot save ourselves. We need a Savior, and we have One- his name is Jesus. We have a God who wants to be with me and with you! We have a God who says, “Let’s spend eternity together . . . my treat.”
That sounds good to me.
See you Sunday, I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

What an amazing time we had at our annual church camping trip at Sylvan Lake!! The weather was wonderful, the activities were abundant - fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, corn hole, cards, campfires, airsoft wars, and more! The food and fellowship were fabulous and doing it all together in God's creation topped it all off as a definite memory-maker!
