But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

“Dead.”  

It is a word that brings sadness, grief, and heartbreak.  That one word brings us from joy to sorrow, from vibrance to despair.  The very first definition dictionary.com offers for the word “dead” is simply “no longer alive.”  

The apostle Paul states that in our sins, we were dead in our sins.  We used to be dead in our sins, but because of God’s great love, we are not dead!  God chose to forgive and rescue you out of the pit of sorrow and despair because of his “great love.” No longer are you dead, but you are alive with Christ.  This changes everything!  

Jesus said Satan, the enemy, wants to bring death; he comes to kill.  But Jesus comes to bring life!  Knowing we are saved by God’s grace alone, empowers us to live vibrant lives of faith, fellowship, and fun!  In a sad world trying to save itself, we reflect on where strength in times of sorrow comes from - it comes from the Lord. (see Nehemiah 8:10)  We are not destined to death and destruction, but instead destined to live- to live for the Lord and to live for each other - no matter our circumstances.   

See you Sunday, as we celebrate our lives of vibrance knowing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and so will we. I can’t wait!

• Harriet & Steve Racicot, who will be leaving soon to do mission work in Romania. Keep them in prayer for safety, for God's provision, and for the Lord's will to be done as they share the Good News with others.

• Those who struggle with mental illness. Lord, fill their hearts and minds with your truth, your love, your comfort and peace. Remind them who they are in you and give them your everlasting healing.
